NFL Conference Championships: Atlanta Falcons vs Green Bay Packers on Sunday, January 22, 3:05 PM, Georgia Dome
After defeating the Cowboys in a close game at 34-31, the Packers lost to the Falcons by a 23-point differential when the final scoreboards read 44-21.
Although the Packers put up a good fight, Injuries plagued the Green Bay Packers the entire NFC Championship game. On the opening drive from the Packers, the rookie safety, Kentrell Brice, sprinted and administered a tough hit on Atlanta’s Eric Weems. However, Brice, who led the Packers last week in tackles after replacing Morgan Burnett, landed directly on his shoulder and had to leave the field.
The game turned worse for the Packers as more players had to leave the field due to the injury bug. As the injuries took their toll, linebackers Jake Ryan and defensive back Micah Hyde had to leave the game, allowing the Falcons to score on four of its five first-half drives, creating a 24-0 lead. The Packers responded with an aggressive offense that took them to the Atlanta 23-yard line, but failed to capitalize as Mason Crosby missed his field goal kick in 5 years since the 2010-2011 season.
As the plays continued, the Packers drove 64 yards and seemed to be close to scoring, but fullback Aaron Ripkowski fumbled, creating opportunity for the Falcons to swoop in. Julio Jones completely bypassed defensive backs Damarious Randall and LaDarius Gunter to open up a Falcons’ 31-0 lead.
Although the Packers bounced back with three touchdowns of their own, the Falcons outplayed the Bay defense ending the game at 44-21 as time expired.
NFL Divisional Playoffs: Atlanta Falcons vs Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, January 14, 4:35 PM, Georgia Dome
Atlanta Falcons defeated their bitter rivals the Seattle Seahawks whom they had defeated (in October) in a controversial match between the two that ended 26-24. Matt Ryan was certainly pleased after the game as he made three solid touchdowns and threw for 338 yards, letting his team thrash Seattle Seahawks 36-20. This win means that Atlanta will now face either Green Bay Packers or Dallas Cowboys in the next round.
At the beginning, the Seahawks looked sturdy, touch and ready to conquer, but the Russel Wilson and other defenders defended their hats off. Devin Hester, the Seahawks wide receiver made an 80-yard punt, a chance the Falcons used to counterattack.
Ryan’s teamwork with Julio Jones sealed the Seahawks’ fate as they made a 7-yard touchdown. Tevin Coleman made use of a killer pass from Ryan by scoring from 14 yards before making a 3-yard toss that saw the crowd chant MVP! MVP!
Jones was excellent in the first half and the second half and made six critical receptions for 67 yards. These great receptions set the pace for Atlanta which saw them take advantage of their home ground. After this strong win, the Falcons for the 4th time in their 51-year NFL history will both for the conference title and for a position in the Super Bowl.
NFL Week 17: Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints on Sunday, January 01, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
If you have a favorite sports team, if you’re a sports person, you know what’s the biggest wish and the biggest dream for your team? Of course you do. You want the opponent crushed, swiped, nailed to the ground. Well, that’s exactly what the Atlanta Falcons did the last game. There was not much left of the New Orleans Saints but their everlasting love towards the team.
By the middle of the timer on the screen, we were all crystal clear what is about to happen. The Atlanta Falcons played the game one will hardly forget. A „touchdoooown“ was all you could hear on all five possessions. Although the Falcons made it pretty hard for them, the Saints never gave up, which resulted in more intense game but the score wasn’t that much different.
The Falcons still have to work very hard to their goal, though. To get to the Super Bowl, they will have to be working on their defense much more. It is obvious that that is the only thing that might bring them down. They have to stop looking at the clock and start playing the whole game as if it was the first minute. They played a great game, but great is not enough.

Concluding with the fourth or the last round, the scores settled down at 33 for Atlanta Falcons and 16 for Carolina Panthers.

NFL Week 15: Atlanta Falcons vs San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, December 18, 4:05 PM, Georgia Dome
The San Francisco 49ers suffered a huge defeat from Atlanta Falcon 49-13 which was a big disappointment for the team as well as its fans. The 49ers didn’t score a single goal in the second half, which was not much of a surprise to anyone as this has been happening from 3 consecutive games. But they need to change this as soon as possible to make the their fans happy.
Colin Kapernick of 49ers could only manage 40 passing yards in the second half. Quinton Patton had to leave the game in the first half due to a foot injury whereas Blake Bell got hurt while he was making a yard catch. Carlos Hyde ran for 71 yards in total, of which 43 yards were passed in the first half.
San Francisco 49rs at Atlanta Falcons saw once again a terrible performance by the 49ers.The 49ers would be rightly disappointed as their losing streak increased to 13 with this loss. The defense of the team plagued with injuries, allowed the Falcons to pass 550 yards. The coaching of 49ers by Trent Baalke was a big letdown too as he failed to make use of his best players effectively. Neither the defense nor the offense part of the team made a positive impression and the performance of the tea was really subpar.
NFL Week 14: Atlanta Falcons at Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, December 11, 4:25 PM, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
The LA Rams have lost 3 straight games, but with this lose against the Falcons, they have gone back in the rank for the play-off hunt. They suffered a 14-42 defeat against their rivals the Atlanta Falcons.
Matt Ryan had a 3-yard touchdown go to J. Hardy only 10 seconds into the game. The Rams started first with the ball. M. Thomas, who was filling in as the kick returner, bobbled. In the meantime, the Atlanta Falcons scored on their first game possession.
The Atlanta Falcons scored on a screen-pass touchdown to give them an early lead. The LA Rams had scored 14 points in their last 6 games. The resolve at game was uncomfortably low and their defense did not look strong.
J. Goff tossed a pick-6; his 2nd interception of the 1st half, the Atlanta Falcons looked phenomenal even without Jones. M. Ryan hit Gabriel with a sixty four yard touchdown.
The Falcon’s running back and Coleman scored his 2nd touchdown of the day against the Los Angeles. V. Beasley, Jr. constrained a fumble then scooped it up for a twenty one yard touchdown in a defense. Jared Goff scored his 1st surging touchdown of his vocation yet took two hard hits on his way into the end zone. The Rams scored 14 points in the 4th quarter.
NFL Week 13: Atlanta Falcons vs Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, December 04, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Atlanta Falcons proved they were worthy oppositions, with the Chiefs taking a 29-28 victory. Unlike with Colts v Jets, the game was a close one, but the Falcons failed in their defense at home.
Matt Ryan might be one of the best QBs in the league, but he still needs to tinker with his talent, as he served up eight points to the Kansas safety Eric Berry like it was dinner. The best thing Ryan can do now is learn from his costly mistakes, or he will never fully reach the potential of the likes of New England Patriot’s Tom Brady.
However, not all the fault lies at Matt Ryan’s door, as the team’s rookie defenders missed tackles and attempted poor angles. With the team squandering three red zone opportunities, they should be happy they suffered such a close defeat.
The Chiefs have certainly proved they are a force to be reckoned with on the field this season, but even they would admit that this game was not their most exciting to date. One thing you cannot deny is that the Kansas City Chiefs have this season managed to pull of the biggest comebacks in franchise history – which should, if anything, be an inspiration to the New York Jets.
NFL Week 12: Atlanta Falcons vs Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, November 27, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
Most people love the American Football, even the girls who don’t even understand the rules of the game. 4 days ago Arizona Cardinals faced the Atlanta Falcons at Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The stadium was packed having an attendance of 92333. This was an away game for the Arizona who began this season recommended as a Super Bowl contender but have been 1 of the NFL’s most disappointing teams.
On Sunday, the Cardinals couldn’t keep up with the speed of one Atlanta’s Gabriel Taylor. With several of short passes into long touch downs that surely sparked his team to a 38 – 19 victory. “I felt like they were running in slow motion,” Gabriel said.
Earlier in the week, Arizona’s coach, Bruce Arians had spent a night in the hospital after complaining of chest pains. His team’s prompting wide receiver; Larry Fitzgerald said the team feels partly responsible for their coach’s condition.
Despite that, Bruce was on the pitch with his team on Sunday but it didn’t inspire his team that much. “There is not much you can take positive from this game,” Larry Fitzgerald said.
The Falcons have lost 2 straight and 3 of their past 4, putting them in the danger of not being on the playoffs after reaching the National Football Conference games last season.
Atlanta Falcons claimed the win with a final total score of 38 while the Arizona Cardinals had 19.
NFL Week 10: Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, November 13, 1:00 PM, Lincoln Financial Field
Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles will be an awesome game. The Eagles will play hard to break an important 2-game losing streak at the famous Lincoln Financial Field in Atlanta. Matt Ryan will also play hard to stop the Eagles from doing what they want to do in the game as well. The Eagles have just a great score of 4-0 at home, which is amazing for any team out there. The record of the Eagles is 1-4 away from home, which is truly great.
Pederson wants the Eagles to win at home again, and he wants this to happen all season.
The Eagles will feed off the crowd, and the team will take advantage of this right away. They have eight home games, and they want also to look good in front of their crowed. The crowd will fill the stands quite well, and the Eagles will be very proud of this treat as well. The crowd is working hard to make it hard for any foe of the Eagles to win a game as well. The Eagles have a record of 4-4, and the Falcons have a record of 6-3.
NFL Week 9: Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, November 03, 7:25 PM, Raymond James Stadium
Last week on Thursday we watched a thriller match that saw the Atlanta Falcons clinching victory against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 43-28 win in favor of the Falcons was crucial as it helped them take a sweet revenge and perfectly snap a two-game losing streak. Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan exhibited exceptional performance during the game; a move that saw him making four touchdown passes to assist in securing the win. Besides, he actually made 344 yards to complete his passes with an overall 73.5 percent.
On the other hand, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston also threw three different touchdowns; unfortunately, they didn’t yield any scores. Meanwhile, Atlanta’s Julio Jones who is known to be a wide receiver was quick to catch eight passes and proceeded to make 111 yards in the match.
Was this win important for the Falcons? Indeed yes. Apparently, the Falcons can now boast of a 1.5-game lead over the New Orleans under the NFC South. Besides, they were able to set a 6-3 record, a move that gives them a reason to enjoy the moment before settling to meet their other rival in Philadelphia. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers are still holding on and hoping that Winston will display a more stellar performance against the Falcons when they clash again. This was after Winston displayed masterful performance when the two teams met in week 1 leading to a 31-24 win against the Falcons.
NFL Week 8: Atlanta Falcons vs Green Bay Packers on Sunday, October 30, 12:00 PM, Georgia Dome
It was a late dramatic event at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta as the Falcons rallied in a late Goal from Mohamed Sanu, after an 11-yard pass from Matt Ryan, giving them a 33-32 win over Green Bay Packers.
Sanu ended the game with a record nine catches, his best considering this is his first season with the falcons and he has proven to be their main pin man.
The Falcons were led by Matt Ryan whose techniques and great passes (especially with an athlete like Sanu) in the second half paid a lot , recording a total 28 of 35 for 288 yards and also 3 touchdowns to accompany his evening.
It all looked like Green Bay Packers were going to take the evening after a 32-26 lead with less than 4mins left on the clock. But Matt Ryan and the Falcons produced stunning brilliance of finishes in the concluding minutes to win the game, setting a good momentum for their upcoming match at Tampa Bay this Thursday.
Jeff Janis, Trevor Davies, Geronimo Allison were Bays players that had their first career touchdowns, though it was not enough to save the day. But they can look on to more possibilities as they face Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
NFL Week 7: Atlanta Falcons vs San Diego Chargers on Sunday, October 23, 4:05 PM, Georgia Dome
This week’s action between the San Diego Chargers and the Atlanta Falcons was not left out in the large series of super-actions. The San Diego buddies were able to thrash the hosts a commendable win of 33-30. It was game that was packed with exhilarating experiences that made the crowd go crazy after every few minutes of gameplay. The players were fight hard to ensure that they make their head coach proud but finally the odds fell on the visitors’ side.
The game had begun on a very high note that was very inauspicious. The falcons had not given up their traditional defense systems that have a tendency of giving up easy and cheap touchdowns form the opponents in the first drive. Their offensive tactics were also relatively slow in the first quarter. However they managed to earn some field goals. In fact, the Falcons were already trailing ahead of the Chargers 7-6 before heading to the second quarter.
By overtime, the game was completely on the side of the Chargers and the Chargers kicker, Lambo Josh was able to strike the winning gal that ensured that the Falcons suffered their third defeat in the season.
NFL Week 6: Atlanta Falcons at Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, October 16, 4:25 PM, CenturyLink Field

In the first half, Seattle dominated the line of scrimmage holding the Falcons to 86 yards but soon surprises followed. What happened in the third and fourth quarters caught everyone by surprise.
With 4:47 left on the clock, Seattle were trailing 24-23 after 21 third quarter points by Matt Ryan. At this moment, the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson led a 70-yarddrive. This would be capped by a 1-yard run by Christine Michael putting the scores to 24-23 still in favour of the Falcons. The big break for the Seahawks came with 3:48 on the clock. Ryan’s pass slipped and through Julio Jone’s hand then was tapped by Richard Sherman and finally landed in the lucky hands of Earl Thomas. This gave his team possession at midfield. Russell Wilson took advantage of this chance and aided Steven Hauschka make a 44-yard field game with 1:57 on the clock. This gave the Seahawks a 26-24 wild win. This was Russell’s 20th career fourth quarter/overtime comeback. Ryan finished with 335 yards runs and three touchdowns.
Other than the actual; game that went down, there were some side shows. The most notable one was Sherman’s anger eruption. He got extremely angry when Jones was left wide open after the blown coverage. He was so angry he kept screaming at his coaches and teammates. Many people tried to calm him down including Kam Chancellor, Michael Bennett, Thomas and Bobby Wagner.
NFL Week 5: Atlanta Falcons at Denver Broncos on Sunday, October 09, 4:05 PM, Sports Authority Field
Atlanta had their first 23-16 win against Denver. The Broncos, pursuing a 5-0 start, came negated behind the struggles of their quarterback, unstable offensive line as well as a weak run defense. Atlanta started the match with the league’s most prolific attack and quickly taking opportunity of the available chances. The Falcons outweighed Denver Broncos in yards 118-59 while finishing the first-quarter with a 10-0 lead. Atlanta ended the game with 372 total yards, surpassing the Denver’s 267.Broncos defense held Atlanta’s wide receiver Julio Jones, flaking a 300-yard performance six days before the match, to zero attempts in the first half. But Atlanta’s offense posed a threat to the Broncos’ defense, finishing with 122 yards.
Cleared lanes and missed tackles exposed the massive weakness of Blanco’s defense. The Falcons’ offense also took advantage of gaps left by Denver’s miss-passes in defense, accounting for 180 yards. Denver’s performance was generally weak as their attack failed to take necessary action as Lynch’s first start was showered with signs of possibilities but disfigured by a missed throws, miscues and indecision and managing only 84 yards on twenty four carries. The first pass he made was a 14-yard finish to Emmanuel Sanders that converted a third play. Denver’s offense was without Donald Stephenson; who has a calf injury. Ty Sambrailo made his third game appearance after missing several matches from series of injuries, was often confronted by Atlanta’s defenders before he was being substituted in the fourth quarter.

NFL Week 3: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints on Monday, September 26, 8:30 PM, Mercedes-Benz Superdome
The Atlanta Falcons emerged victorious Monday night when they visited New Orleans. This game marked a rematch of the game that was held 10 years ago for the Superdome’s reopening after Hurricane Katrina. Sadly for Saints fans, their victory from that night wouldn’t be repeated as they fell 45-32. The Falcons running back duo of Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman proved to be too much to handle for an injury-riddled Saints defense. Coleman rushed for three touchdowns on the night and Freeman rushed for 152 yards on 14 attempts. For the Falcons it was a good thing the running game was working as star receiver Julio Jones was held to one catch for 16 yards. New Orleans actually started very strong in this game, scoring a quick offensive touchdown and then forcing a punt from Atlanta. On the resulting punt, two Saints collided resulting in a Falcons recovery deep in Saints territory. After capitalizing with the first of Coleman’s scores the Falcons never looked back. New Orleans faces an uphill battle to improve both their defense and special teams units. The loss sends them to the cellar of the NFC South at 0-3, while the Falcons are on top of the division at 2-1.
NFL Week 2: Atlanta Falcons at Oakland Raiders on Sunday, September 18, 4:25 PM, Oakland Coliseum
The Atlanta Falcons-made it clear that opposing defenses have more to be concerned with than All-Pro wide-receiver Julio Jones in-the passing match. After a disappointing Week 1 divisional loss to the Buccaneers, the Falcons had to travel to Oakland for game number two.
Quarterback Matt Ryan and the offense initially struggled in the red-zone before finding a rhythm and holding on for a 35-28 win over Oakland Raiders at the Oakland Coliseum on Sunday. A rather uneventful start led to a combined 6 touchdowns between the 2 teams over the second half. Ryan was highly effective after settling for 2 field-goals and throwing an interception during the Atlanta Falcons first 3 trips into the red-zone. The following 3 red-zone drives resulted in touchdowns. Ryan threw for 396-yards and 3 touchdowns while tight ends Austin Hooper, Levine Toilolo and Jacob Tamme combined to catch 10-passes for 179-yards and one touchdown.
The Falcons spent-much of the game using a 3 tight-end formation. They outgained the Raiders 227-yards to 167 in the 1st half and then built a 13-7 lead. The Raiders’ defense-allowed over 500 total net-yards for the 2nd straight match and coach-Jack Del Rio, a former-NFL linebacker & defensive-coordinator, vowed to have the problems fixed. Overall, the Falcons offense proved to be highly efficient and versatile, attacking with several players. Though good enough for the win, the defense will have to improve so as to remain successful moving forward.
NFL Week 1: Atlanta Falcons vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, September 11, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
The Falcons, while down by a touchdown, got the ball back after another Buccaneers field goal, but would only get a single first down before the Bucs closed out the game. The game, for the Falcons, was an attempt to try to move forward from a bad season and try to reach the playoffs after missing them for the last three seasons.
Jameis Winston went twenty-three for thirty-two, throwing for 281 yards, with four touchdowns, and one interception. Winston also was able to shake off an early interception that led to the Falcons taking a ten to three lead in the game and hooked up with Mike Evans (wide receiver), Charles Sims III (running back), and Brandon Myers and Austin Sefarian-Jenkins (both Sefarian-Jenkins and Meyers are tight ends).
Matt Ryan went twenty-seven for thirty-nine, throwing for 334 yards, with two touchdown passes, and zero interceptions in the game.

By the end of the first, the game was led by the Falcons ten to three. The Falcons would score in every quarter of the game, however, in the second and fourth only a field goal in each quarter. The second half of the game, the Buccaneers outscored the Falcons fourteen to eleven.
NFL Preseason Week 4: Atlanta Falcons vs Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, September 01, 7:00 PM, Georgia Dome
Jacksonville Jaguars at Atlanta Falcons showed how much the Jaguars are determined to compete in the season. Due to home advantage, the Falcons had many chances and they ended up beating Jaguars 17-15. It was always hard to pass through the defense line of the hosts and Jaguar attackers had to utilize any fouls that came into play.
Terron Ward was all over the field with two major touchdowns. Although he had missed prior games, he seemed more energetic and full of skills. Both teams included their quarterbacks, which made the game even more interesting. Shaq Evans return to the squad was also wise since he had many accurate and yielding moves and passes across the pitch. He had three catches within just 54 yards.
Some players’ efforts seemed suppressed such as that of matt Schaub whose only remarkable move was a 5-yard throw. Hooper, the Giants heart, had a rough time handling Stanford who seemed very aggressive but sometimes losing the game formation. Johnson showed his kickoff return skills as he made some great tactics as the first half ended. He was however silent in the rest of the game.
The win of the Falcons might mean that they have improved the game of the season. However, the Jaguars too had a great play and given that most of its players were absent, they are sure to have a great NFL season performance.
NFL Preseason Week 3: Atlanta Falcons at Miami Dolphins on Thursday, August 25, 8:00 PM, New Miami Stadium
The Miami Dolphins eventually came out of their third game in the preseason with a sense of confidence having emerged victorious over the Falcons with a 13-9 score. Following the unsatisfactory performance that had been previously witnessed, the team seems to be picking up under the leadership of their new coach Adam Gase.
Despite the positive energy and push witnessed during this game, this is not to say the team is finally on the right track. There are certain critical issues about the team that need immediate attention. The signing of players, field management and pay should be keenly looked at if positive results are to be sustained.
There are certain players that put their best foot forward to earn the Dolphins victory. The credit goes to linebackers led by Koa Misi. These players ensured they made the right play and tackled opponents with great precision and speed. They depicted efficient teamwork and brotherhood. Ryan Tannehill played his role in the pocket and took charge of the offense to propel the game forward. Line blocking and pass protection was well handled.
However, there are a few setbacks that need attention. Jordan Cameroon needs to work on his efficiency. The players at the cornerbacks and defensive lines need great improvement if the team has to perform.
NFL Preseason Week 2: Atlanta Falcons at Cleveland Browns on Thursday, August 18, 8:00 PM, FirstEnergy Stadium
Last NFL game-day Atlanta Falcons Versus Cleveland Browns played at FirstEnergy stadium on Thursday. Carl Nassib continues to make his presence felt. He continues his preseason tear. He continues to live up to the considerable hype coming from the Browns camp about his future.
Nassib consistently put pressure on Falcons. Starting with quarterback Matt Ryan and sacked the backup Matt Simons in the third quarter. Nassib acted like a one-man army wrecking the advances of Falcons. He flew into the edge unblocked and drove the ball himself by knocking it off loose. He further deflected a Ryan pass in the first quarter of the match and had another pass of Matt Schaub negated by the Browns penalty in the second quarter. Initially the Cleveland Browns got the ball to begin the game. During the Browns next offensive series, things were a lot better, and then at midfield quarterback Robert Griffin III flew a perfect 50-yard touchdown.
The Browns defense made Atlanta a punt on next series. Cleveland Browns finally succumbed to Atlanta Falcons.

NFL Week 16: Atlanta Falcons vs Carolina Panthers on Sunday, December 27, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
Quarterback Matt Ryan had an unenviable task in front of him when he led the Atlanta Falcons onto the field against the Carolina Panthers who have been undefeated this season. In what turned out to be a very low scoring game, Ryan led his squad to a narrow 20-13 victory to end the Panthers’ perfect season and to send a message to the division that it’s too early to count out Atlanta in the championship hunt.
There will be very little doubt that Carolina quarterback Cam Newton must be considered for top honors in this role this season, but stellar efforts by Atlanta’s Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman gave Falcons fans a glimpse of the championship winning team that has hoisted the Super Bowl in the past … and could again. Jones’ seventy yard catch and follow through to the goal line was a textbook performance that is sure to be reviewed repeatedly.
The Panthers started strong, but were ineffective once Atlanta started to mount momentum. Perhaps this interruption to an otherwise perfect season will help to re-focus the unit and ensure they don’t stumble due to overconfidence in the weeks still ahead in the season.
NFL Week 15: Atlanta Falcons at Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, December 20, 1:00 PM, EverBank Field
This match happened on Sunday 20th at Jacksonville, Florida where the Falcons emerged with a win of 23-17 over the Jaguars. The first half lead of the game was played on a prominence of the running game. Devonta Freeman from Atlanta Falcons led the way with a total of 53 yards and a touchdown. Free man later added 45 yards as well on receptions.
The second half of this game was slightly different as Jacksonville went on to fight as they were in the hunt for the division lead. The Jaguars managed to tie draw the game at 17 after because of Julius Thomas having 6 catches and 79 yards. Allen Robinson added 57 yards with 3 catches and one score. In this game Matt Ryan was focused on Roddy White and Julio Jones. The Falcons managed a FG in the 4th play and went up by 3. Mat Ryan threw wrongly to Justin Hardy on a third down which could have resulted to a touchdown. Hardy ended this game with 3 catches for 36 yards.
NFL Week 14: Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers on Sunday, December 13, 1:00 PM, Bank of America Stadium
The Panthers are now three games away from winning every game in the regular season, and have now wrapped up a first round bye in the playoffs. This season, Cam Newton is putting up huge numbers, and doing an impressive job showing just what he can do. This is the best season that that both Cam and the Panthers have had. The Falcons, on the other hand, are towards the bottom of the NFC South (the same division as the Panthers), only the Saints are worse right now. The Falcons have not won a game against a divisional opponent this year.
Matt Ryan completed 22 of his 34 pass attempts throwing for 224 yards, one interception, no touchdown passes, and he fumbled the ball twice, losing one of them.
Cam Newton completed fifteen passes after 21 attempts, throwing for 265 yards, three touchdowns (adding to his 28 for the season), and no interceptions in the win. He has already broken his highest career touchdown passes in a season of 24. As of now, this is the lowest amount of interceptions that he has thrown; his previous low was twelve, which he’s done twice in his career.
The Panthers scored in every quarter, except the fourth; they scored early and often in the game. They scored 21 in the first quarter alone. Even though they scored no points in the fourth, they still scored ten in the second half.
NFL Week 13: Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, December 06, 1:00 PM, Raymond James Stadium
The Atlanta Falcons were going against Tampa Bay’s buccaneers at the Raymond James Stadium. It was a tight knit game where both teams were ready to win at all costs. However there is always a winner and a loser. Falcons lost the game to Buccaneers at 19 to 23. The win was all thanks to Jameis Winston who is making his presence felt in the NFL. His last minute goal allowed the falcons to still have a chance in the race to winning the NFC playoffs. It was a 6- yards touchdown pass to Mike Evans.
Their well-known coach Lovie Smith was all smiles as he said that for this game he truly believes the team made a pact and refused to loose.
The rookie Winston who was named NFL offensive rookie of the month in November led the team to victory and with only four games remaining to finish the season, we can only wait to see what more surprises we are in for. The win handed them their third straight division title.
‘If you want it badly enough you can get it’ were one of the team members words for this surprise win.
NFL Week 12: Atlanta Falcons vs Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, November 29, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
Vikings had a wonderful 20-10 win over their opponents Falcons. The vikes took a massive win as Adrian Peterson bounced back and forth and ran for 158-yard and Minnesota picked a 10 fourth-quarter which saw them attain their away victory. As for the Atlanta players, Matt Ryan went on with his uneven play and tossed two interceptions including one interception on third and goal.
In the first quarter, Falcons Tevin Coleman running back burst in the secondary. Unfortunately Vikings Linebacker Antony Barr popped the ball after a 46-yard run. Falcons Desmond Trufant defense, was blocked by the receive Wallace from scoring. However, Viking’s Andrew Peterson scored later.
In the second quarter after an interception, Falcon put together 67-yard 15 play that was scrapped by Shane Graham and kicked a 31-yard field goal. Flacons were therefore back in the game with a 7-3.
In the third quarter, Coleman scored a touchdown that would have put the Falcons in 10-7 match result. However, Tight end Tony Moeki was called for pinning on the run’s backside.
During the fourth Quarter, the falcons added a cheap and late touchdown of 1-yard pass. The game ended with a win of Vikings 20 and Falcons 10.
NFL Week 11: Atlanta Falcons vs Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, November 22, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
The Colts came from a pair of touchdown deficits to inflict injury on the Atlanta Falcons in a closely contested game. 24 – 21 being the final score in a game that saw the oldest player in the NFL, Adam Vinatieri adding yet another kick that was the winner to his career. With 52 seconds remaining on the clock, the kick sent the Colts to another well deserved victory. Devonta Freeman suffered a concussion earlier on in the game but the Falcons still managed a comfortable and solid lead to the Colts at 14 – 0 as well as 21 – 7. But the second half saw the offence totally humiliated and failed to produce any comeback from all the smashing that they received.
Julio Jones, however, still had a great game yet again making nine passes for the 160 yards. Matt Ryan though was intercepted three times and we can’t say the same for him. Vinatieri though, playing in his 300th NFL game was the savior of the day for the Colts yet again. This means that the Colts are tied in the AFC East for first. This comes despite the heat that has been on Coach Chuck Pagano as well as the front office in lieu of the disappointing season that the team has had.
NFL Week 9: Atlanta Falcons at San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, November 08, 4:05 PM, Levis Stadium
The San Francisco 49ers fought hard to overcome a gritty Atlanta Falcons side 17-16 in a very closely contested tie. But questions abound in many a fan’s mind: Is it possible that the Falcons under-rated the 49ers? Very possible. Before playing the 49ers, the Falcons had lost only three of their eight games, unlike the 49ers, who had lost a whooping six. It should be noted that this was their second loss in a row, having lost 20-23 to Buccaneers the previous weekend.
This must have been a demoralizing defeat. As for the 49ers, this is a very famous and pivotal victory that could become a turning point for their fortunes this season. Prior to playing the Falcons, they had lost six games, the most recent loss being the one to St Louis Rams, to whom they succumbed 6-27. It is amazing how they picked themselves up speedily to beat the 49ers.
Being their third victory, it could boost the morale in the team for their upcoming assignments, the next one being against the Seattle Seahawks. With two weeks of rest, they should be able to prepare well and conquer the Seahawks.
NFL Week 8: Atlanta Falcons vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, November 01, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
In the recent weeks, Tampa bay Buccaneers Bay has been dominating in one statistic especially that is correlated with victory. The Buccaneers did defeat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime with 23-20 on Sunday in the Georgia Dome and thus improved their 2015 record to 3-4. Some of the interesting statistics of the game include the takeaway from Julio Jones whereby Alexander tracked the receiver down and did pull the ball away as Jones tackled and also returned it 20 yards to Atlanta’s 21, counts.
This made the rookie “backer as the first Buccaneer to ever record an interception, and a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the same game. Winston did score the final points for the Buccaneers before overtime after rushing for a four-yard touchdown on third-and-goal during the third quarter. Matt Ryan tied the game for the Falcons on eight-yard touchdown pass to Jones with only seventeen seconds left in regulation. Another sensation event during the game came from Kicker Connor Barth’s thirty-one yard game winning filed during overtime and this was his third successful kick in his three tries during the game.
The three crucial third downs that the Buccaneers converted in the overtime did help the team to finish six-for-13 in that category on Sunday.
NFL Week 7: Atlanta Falcons at Tennessee Titans on Sunday, October 25, 1:00 PM, Nissan Stadium
The Atlanta Falcons beat the Tenessee Titans 10 to 7 in a highly controversial game that saw the Falcoans coach, Dann Quinn call a lot of bad choices on the players side in the game. Though the game could have gone either way, the Falcons had to do a lot of work to maintain their half time 6-1 lead that was really a remarkable feat for them.
Goal line misses was Dann Quinn’s worries for the night which had seen the refs call some pretty controversial calls in the game.It was a really great game for the Falcons and they couldn’t have needed the result any sooner. the result was worth it though their performance was nothing short of dismall. The Titans too were lackluster to say the least on game day and this is what made led to this disappointing loss that they couldn’t afford considering their position at the table in the moment.
Falcons RightBack Devonta Freeman was highly praised for his performance in the game that was just brilliant. This saw him being compared to past greats and I have to say that he really lived up to my expectations and this is mainly due to the fact that he was the man to watch in that game.
NFL Week 6: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints on Thursday, October 15, 8:25 PM, Mercedes-Benz Superdome
Tight end Ben Watson of the New Orleans Saints caught 10 passes for 127 yards including a touchdown in leading the Saints to a victory over the Atlanta Falcons, 31-21. This was the first loss of the season for the Dirty Birds and it was their arch rival Saints who put it on them. New Orleans played its best game of the season to go 2-4.
Mark Ingram of the Saints started the scoring when he ran it in from the 2-yard line after a 12-play, 80-yard drive in the first quarter. The highlight of the game also came in the first quarter when the son of a former Saint, Michael Mauti, blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown. The Superdome crowd was reminded of Steve Gleason’s emotional punt block in the first game back in the dome after Katrina, also against the Falcons. The Saints took a 14-7 lead into halftime after Roddy White caught a Matt Ryan pass for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter.
Drew Brees came out of halftime on fire and led the Saints to 10 points in the 3rd quarter. Davonta Freeman scored two touchdowns in the fourth and Mark Ingram scored another for the Saints to complete the scoring. Freeman had a big game for Atlanta with 100 yards rushing on 13 carries and 8 pass catches for 56 yards.
Brees turned back the clock by going 30/39 for 312 yards. Matt Ryan went 30/44 for 295 but fumbled 3 times, losing 1, and was sacked 5 times. Falcons turned the ball over 3 times on fumbles. Crowd noise seemed to affect the Falcons offense at times.
The Saints defense was led by Dannell Ellerbe with 12 tackles and Cam Jordan pitching in with 3 sacks. The secondary kept Julio Jones in check by limiting him to 93 yards on 6 catches.
It was one of those Saints games where a few plays go their way and, with the home crowd spurring the team on, everything snowballs in their favor. They will have to win a couple more times before observers and fans alike will begin to consider them a threat to make the playoffs.
NFL Week 5: Atlanta Falcons vs Washington Redskins on Sunday, October 11, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
The Falcons won against the Redskins with a 27-26. Out of the seven Washington turnovers, Falcons scored twenty points and the Redskins came down from turnovers to win the game. Their coach acknowledged that winning from a turnovers was really a hard fight. Despite the heartfelt moments displayed during the game, luck was on the Falcons side who got an advantage from an onside kick sealing their win.
They played a very clinical game utilizing their chances well. They were playing defensively and were only running forward when sure they had the chance to make a touchdown. Despite them not appearing as the best team, their plan, confidence and commitment won them the game. They also had to include someone to replace one of their injured players and the included individual made his first start. In less than six minutes in the game, Falcons were leading 24-20.
In the first half, Redskins were leading in turnovers with four and two for the Falcons. however, in the second quarter, the Redskins were presented with more scoring chances but they never utilized them fully. One Falcons player had a very nice display with about six catches and he became number five in the history of NFL history with 15,000 yards receiving. It is clear from this game that, the Falcons were trying to take the home advantage in favor of their fans.
NFL Week 4: Atlanta Falcons vs Houston Texans on Sunday, October 04, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
The Houston Texans went down 1-3 after they were throttled by the Atlanta Falcons. This game has been described by many as the most humiliating defeat for the Texans. It was mostly dominated by the Falcons who took advantage of the missing team work in Texans’ team to stay on top of the game.
The Texans on the other hand had an unfortunate day in the field with some of their players experiencing injuries that would see them leave the game. Despite the presence of the best players such as Cushing, Watt, Clowney, and Wilfork, the missing team link always gave the Falcons an upper hand. They were able to effectively neutralize these players by double-teaming and triple-teaming them making it impossible for them to score. The Texans offense has also been faulted for being too complicated for the players hence the inability to be effective or deliver.
The Texans loss has left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth including the coach who personally took the blame for the terrible performance by his team. However, it is hoped that the team will have learnt its mistakes before the next game and avoid yet another humiliating event.
NFL Week 3: Atlanta Falcons at Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, September 27, 1:00 PM, AT&T Stadium
The Falcons won against Cowboys on their first game by 39-28 without Tony Ramos and Dez Bryant this Sunday at AT&T Stadium..
The highlights of the game were the two touchdowns made bay Julio Jones and Matt Ryan and the three scores and 141 yards ran by Devonta Freeman. The Cowboys seemed in control with an offensive line very in domain and with the defense was keeping up until the end of the first half where the story game took a turn.
With only 40 seconds to play, the Falcons made a score on four possessions, making 25 points and taking the lead of the game from here on.
Cowboy’s defense had no solutions for Freeman’s, who made an incredible 141 yards and 30 carries during the game and Jones was unstoppable with 164 yards and 12 catches, resolving the game with only 3.04 to play by scoring a 2 yard touchdown.
On the second half, Atlanta already had an 11 points advantage and the Cowboys only caught one pass by Beasley.
The Cowboys lost their 11 points advantage and end up losing by also 11 points. The Falcons made an astonishing comeback and turn the game around in a game to remember. Cowboy’s defense failed to stop Falcons massive offensive with incredible performances from Devonta Freeman, Julio Jones and Matt Ryan, the men of the game. Falcon’s team seems to be a serious contender to the play offs, this year.
NFL Week 2: Atlanta Falcons at New York Giants on Sunday, September 20, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium
Two flawed teams went head to head in this game, one had a win, the other had a loss. Now both teams have 2 of each. The Falcons pulled out a win by the skin of their teeth to go 2-0.
The Falcons outscored the Giants 14-0 in the fourth quarter to pull out this win, including the touchdown that won them the game with under two minutes left in the game. Two plays after a big 37 yard catch from Matt Ryan to Julio Jones, they scored a much needed touchdown to win the game.
The Giants just could not pull out a win and they ended up beating themselves yet again. The momentum had shifted in their favor and had an opportunity to pull ahead 17 points, they wound up blowing their lead in the fourth quarter and losing by 4. Part of the Giants’ problem is their defense allows a lot of third down conversions, forcing many drives to continue.
Just because the Falcons won, doesn’t mean they do not have a lot of work to do moving forward. They just have a have better record starting out and in a division as tough as the NFC South, it could be the difference between watching the playoffs at home and playing in them.
NFL Week 1: Atlanta Falcons vs Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, September 14, 7:10 PM, Georgia Dome
For now, you and everyone else know about the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback situation. It is among the things that every team would like to have for themselves. Every team would love to be in that position because at times it appears that there is a shortage of really good quarterbacks in the league. However on the contrary, no one would like it on a certain level.
Philadelphia Eagles’ traded one of their greatest quarterbacks in record in the offseason. They now find themselves at 2-1 and with 2 good quarterbacks which are both able to lead the team to good performances. Taking into consideration the players in that position, it becomes hard not knowing what the future holds. It appears that the Michael Vick experiment will continue in Philadelphia for now.
Michael Vick is a great player who attacks the opposing team on the ground or through the air. He is always surrounded with opponents during his entire time and each time they help him become the player he is now. It was a good idea for Michael Vick to the start beside a lot of talk during the week regarding whether he should.
It may be clearly shown by an Atlanta Falcons quiz how the rising success Philadelphia Eagles had in the early twenty first century which was largely based on their 2001 draft’s first round pick. Michael Vick is the player they would draft who would go on to be among the most controversial in the NFL in the last decade, quarterback.
Atlanta Falcons season 2014 recap
Atlanta Falcons appeared in the 2014 NFL League for their 49th time since the cup began. Mike Smith was their head coach, having headed the team for 7 yrs culminating in this year’s contest. Though they managed a couple of wins at the start of the season, they eventually lost focus and were defeated at the NFC South Conference during the last week by Carolina Panthers. This loss officially eliminated them from postseason contests for a 2nd straight year.
Owing to such dismal performance, the board saw it fit to fire Coach Mike Smith on Dec 29th 2014. His last two years with the team resulted in loses. During NFL season 2015 you will be able to follow Atlanta Falcons live streams again.
NFL Week 17: Atlanta Falcons vs Carolina Panthers on Sunday, December 28, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
The Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons squared of Sunday in a must win game for both. The victor would be the NFC South champs and earn a first round home game in the playoffs. The Panthers came in very hot winning three straight games and kept it going Sunday. The Panthers defense was unstoppable returning two interceptions for touchdowns, forcing a fumble, and sacking Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan six times. On the offensive side of the ball, Cam Newton looked healthy for the first time all season throwing for 114 yards and a touchdown and rushing for another 51 yards and a touchdown.
The team also rushed for a combined 194 yards. The Falcons looked confused all day on both sides of the ball. There defense could not figure out Cam Newton and the read option offense. Atlanta fans booed their team and their second straight losing season. To finish it all off, Falcons owner Arthur Blank fired head coach Mike Smith today. It was another disappointing loss for the Falcons and their fans, who have one of the leagues higher scoring offenses, but seem to always fall short in the must win games.
NFL Week 16: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints on Sunday, December 21, 1:00 PM, Mercedes-Benz Superdome
The New Orleans Saints lost their first game to the Atlanta Falcons in overtime, due to a fumble on the second play of overtime, and were expected to be fired up for this game. Unfortunately for the Saints, they didn’t take good care of the ball in this game, turning the ball over four times. Quarterback Drew Brees, was responsible for three of them, throwing two interceptions and losing one fumble, while tight end Jimmy Graham was credited with a fumble, on a controversial play that the Saints thought was a touchdown, but the referees ruled a fumble instead, in what ended up being a turning point in the game.
While the Saints were having trouble holding on to the ball on offense, Matt Ryan continued having success against the Saint’s defense, and followed up his career high game in the season opener, by completing 31-40 passes, for 322 yards, and one touchdown. The Falcon’s defense, which has struggled a lot this year got in on the scoring action, when Osi Umenyiora returned a Drew Brees fumble for an 86 yard touchdown, as time expired.
The win by the Falcons eliminated New Orleans from the playoffs, and set them up with a winner take all showdown with the Carolina Panthers for the NFC South title.
NFL Week 15: Atlanta Falcons vs Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, December 14, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
Pittsburgh Steelers registered their 9th win of the season after beating Atlanta Falcons 27-20 during their NFL game on Sunday. The tough offense of the Steelers with the likes of Roethlisberger and Todd Haley was a no match for the Falcons Defense.
The Steelers are making sure that their team goes into the play-offs unlike the previous 2 years with some excellent display of team work and fighting spirit. The Steelers banked on the contributions from Roethlisberger who gave the best for his team with a mission to get it into the play offs.
The Falcons were struggling at 13-0 at one point of the game, after which Devin Hester, Matt Ryan and Roddy White made contributions to the score fighting through the defense with a 17 yard pass, a field goal and 4 yard pass respectively to take their score to a respectable 20.
The upfront performance of the Steelers was enough to get them over the line as the match ended with them wining 27-20!
NFL Week 14: Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers on Monday, December 08, 8:30 PM, Lambeau Field
Green Bay Packers edged of the Atlanta Falcons 43-37 to keep intact their pole position on the NFC North Conference. The win means that the Packers have recorded 5 consecutive straight wins which adds their total tally to 10 wins and 3 losses. They are only tired with Arizona as the best NFC record of the season so far. Aaron Rodgers and Eddie Lacy were the driving force behind the Packers victory. Lacy ran a touchdown and caught one of three Rodgers TD passes building a 24 point lead at halftime. The Falcons rallied an impressive fourth quarter victory which was not enough to beat the Packers. However, the Falcons are guaranteed playoffs.
Julio Jones rallied the Falcons an effort that saw him record a 259 yard receiving which marks his best effort in his career. He also had a 22 yard touchdown which added to the 20 points during the fourth quarter. He was however forced to leave the game due to a hip injury. A 2 yard touchdown from Matt Ryan helped the Falcons trim the Packers lead by 6 points with just 1.37 minutes left.
The Packers will be looking forward to continue their impressive run when they travel to face third placed Buffalo Bills this coming Sunday. On the other hand, the Falcons hope to get their groove back when host Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
NFL Week 13: Atlanta Falcons vs Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, November 30, 4:05 PM, Georgia Dome
Julio Jones led the Atlanta Falcons (5-7, 1st in NFC South) to a victory over the struggling Arizona Cardinals (9-3, 1st in NFC West) by a score of 29 – 18. Jones had 10 receptions for 189 yards and a touchdown as the Falcons had 500 yards of total offense. Falcons QB Matt Ryan threw for 361 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception in the victory. Atlanta got off to a fast start, leading 17 – 0 after the first quarter, behind touchdowns from Jones and running back Levine Toilolo. They had the ball on the Arizona 3-yard line on another drive but only managed a field goal.
The Cardinals came storming back in the second, with safety Rashad Johnson intercepting Ryan and returning it 88 yards for a touchdown. After a field goal with just under three minutes left in the half, the Cardinals trailed 17-10. But this was as close as the came. The Cardinals scored a meaningless touchdown with 1:05 left in the game, on a 3 yard pass from QB Drew Stanton to Stepfan Taylor. Stanton finished with 294 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Arizona has lost two straight games and now have only a one game lead over Seattle in the NFC West. They face the Kansas City Chiefs next week. Atlanta leads the NFC South over New Orleans, even though they are 5-7. They play the red hot Green Bay Packers next Monday.
NFL Week 12: Atlanta Falcons vs Cleveland Browns on Sunday, November 23, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
Cleveland at Atlanta, better known as Browns and Falcons were out to show that none was lesser than the other was. Although the Browns carried the day, this game had more than this. First, most of the top performers were from Cleveland, the pain of being dominated at a home game was real pain in the fresh for the Falcons. They thus had to stretch further to appease their home fans.
With this, they were able to make away with the first half; this was with a very clean sheet. However, the Browns got such an amazing comeback in the second half and they Clearly manifested their expertise. This was until the blowing of the last whistle. Both teams had a great defense; this is a big reason as to why there was little disparity among the scores. Any team caring the day was not a surprise as the odd was close. The Browns winning gave them an upper hand in running to the stretch run.
For the Falcons, it was merely an extension of hopelessness as they are in great tussle to continue in the league. Although they put up great resistance and brought up better tactics in this game, the question is, will they be able to continue this way and get a better position before the season ends.
NFL Week 11: Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers on Sunday, November 16, 1:00 PM, Bank of America Stadium
The Atlanta Falcons are starting to find their way, particularly with the help of their star receiver Julio Jones. The fact that Graham Gano missed two field goals in the game may be a sign that the Panthers need to evaluate their special teams setup. Matt Bryant on the other hand was able to hit four field goals in the game. The solid kicking performance put together by Matt Bryant certainly gave the Falcons a certain amount of momentum going into the second half.
The Panthers still have to figure out what they are going to do at the receiver position. Cam Newton has to make some ill advised throws in order to allude the pressure put on by different teams in the NFC South. Kelvin Benjamin is still trying to learn how to work with Newton when Newton is throwing on the run. They do seem to have a good working relationship with Benjamin catching nine balls in this game. Newton did have two interceptions in the game, but they probably won’t be facing a cornerback with the skills of Desmond Trufant in the future. The Panthers were not able to get enough out of Philly Brown late in the game, this allowed the Falcons to double team Benjamin.
NFL Week 10: Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, November 09, 1:00 PM, Raymond James Stadium
Atlanta faced of against Tampa Bay in a battle of two NFC South teams. Both teams came in to the contest needing a victory. The first half of the game proved the importance of the game, as the Falcons lead thirteen to ten at the half. In the second half the Falcons proved that they have too much talent for the rebuilding Buccaneers.
Steven Jackson had a strong rushing game for the Falcons as he ran for eighty-one yards and a touchdown. The top receiver for the Falcons was Julio Jones who caught eight passes for 119 yards. Roddy White caught a touchdown pass. Matt Ryan had a serviceable day at quarterback as he threw for 219 yards and did not have any interceptions.
The Atlanta defense accounted for three turnovers and four sacks. Tampa Bay’s strongest player was wide receiver Mike Evans, he had seven receptions fro 125 yards and one touchdown. Vincent Jackson had 8 receptions for seventy-five yards. The Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown completed twenty-seven passes for 301 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. The Tampa defense did sack Ryan once for seven yards, but they did not have any turnovers for the game.
Atlanta is playing against Carolina in another NFC South battle. Tampa is traveling to the nations capitol to play Washington.
NFL Week 8: Atlanta Falcons vs Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 26, 9:30 AM, Wembley Stadium
The Detroit Lions came from behind to floor the Atlanta Falcons 22-21 in one of the weekends closely fought affairs. The Falcons were quick off the blocks and looked set to win the game when the Lions overturned tables on them unexpectedly. The Falcons ran rings around the Lions defense in the first and second quarters. The Lions defense was in tatters, allowing the Falcons to run away with 14-0 and 7-0 respectively in both quarters.
However, what followed was unbelievable. No one can tell what befell both the Falcons defense and offense. Their defense literally broke down under the barrage of the resurgent Lions offense. It was the turn of the Lions offense to run rings around the Falcons defense. With the Falcons offense contained as well, the Lions took the third and fourth quarters 10-0 and 7-0 respectively for an overall score of 22-17 Sweet victory indeed.
This was the Lions sixth victory this season, but the sixth loss of the season for the Falcons. The bitter loss of the Falcons to the Lions condemned them to the lower parts of the NFL table. How mentally strong they are to rise from the ashes remains to be seen.
NFL Week 7: Atlanta Falcons at Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, October 19, 1:00 PM, M&T Bank Stadium
The Baltimore Ravens Win At Home The Baltimore Ravens won their week seven match against the Atlanta Falcons at the M&T Bank Stadium. The big 29-7 underlined their credentials as one of the emerging formidable sides this season. They dominated the entire match and should have won by an even bigger margin. By the end of the third quarter, they were leading by a massive twenty points. It was in the third quarter that the Falcons emerged from the ashes to garner seven against the Ravens nine. Their solid and dominant defense carried the day for the Ravens. This was the Ravens second blowout win in a row. In week six, they defeated Tampa Bay 48-17. They have won five of their seven matches so far. Their next opponent is the wounded Bengals.
This was the Falcons fourth straight defeat and the fifth this season. That leaves them with only two victories only this season. They were outplayed in all departments in this match. Their offense hardly troubled the defense of the Ravens, while their defense was easily permeable. They have to work hard and fix the shaky departments before taking on their next opponent. The Falcons meet the Detroit Lions at the Wembley Stadium in London.
NFL Week 6: Atlanta Falcons vs Chicago Bears on Sunday, October 12, 1:00 PM, Georgia Dome
This match up saw Devin Hester looking to get a little bit of payback at the expense of his former team. The wide receiver/kick returner extraordinaire has become a larger part of the Falcon’s offensive look than he ever did during his tenure with the Bears. However, the Bears got the better of this battle, winning 27 to 13 and holding Hester to 23 yards on 1 reception. For Jay Cutler, it was a much-needed stellar performance after a pair of disappointing second halves in previous weeks. He threw for 381 yards and one touchdown to Josh Morgan. Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey, having battled injuries over the past month, both chipped in with 100+ efforts.
As usual for the Bears, the star was Matt Forte. 80 yards rushing, 77 yards receiving and two touchdowns are proof of the impact he had on the game last Sunday.
For the Falcons, Matt Ryan looked uncharacteristically stumped by the lagging Bears secondary, completing only 19 of 37 passes. As a result, the offense never seemed to get going. Marquee receivers Julio Jones and Roddy White had a significant number of dropped passes, further complicating affairs for the offense. This is bad news for the Falcons, who have a tough road game schedule ahead of them.
NFL Week 5: Atlanta Falcons at New York Giants on Sunday, October 05, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium
The New York Giants thrashed the Atlanta Falcons 30-20 in a match played at the MetLife stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons who had been leading for the most part of the game were surprised when tables turned in the fourth quarter. A draw in the first half (7,7) a lead in the second half (6,3) saw the falcons dominate the better third of the game. In the fourth quarter, the cheering home ground fans motivated the Giants to gain momentum over the struggling Falcons to claim the win.
A calculated pass from Eli Manning saw Rueben Randle’s 3-yard touch down and a kick from Josh Brown place the Giants in the first place with seven points. Steven Jackson’s 10-yard run and a kick from Matt Bryant helped the Falcons equalize the match. Matt Bryant scored two 20-yard field goals in the second half to see the Falcons take a lead in the game. Josh Brown’s 49-field goal did not help the Giants equalize ending the half in Falcons favor. In the third quarter Antone Smith 74-yard score and Matt Bryant’s kick helped falcons maintain their lead. Four consecutive goals from the Giants, two field goals from Josh Brown (50 and 26 yards), a 3-yard run from Andre William and a 15-yard goal enabled them win their third match in a row.
NFL Week 4: Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, September 28, 4:25 PM, Mall of America Field
The Atlanta Falcons were gashed up front, giving up more rushing yards than they probably expected to the likes of Matt Asiata and Jared McKinnon. Matt Ryan saw some pressure coming from the likes of Vikings rookie linebacker Anthony Barr. Barr was able to record a sack in the game. The Vikings won by a 41-28 score, despite an extremely solid performance from both Steven Jackson and Roddy White.
Teddy Bridgewater was able to show that he is very capable of running the Vikings offense as a young quarterback. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner put him in some very good situations. Harrison Smith continues to be a leader on defense who has proven that he can not only make a large number of open field tackles from the safety position, but Smith can also get after the quarterback for the Vikings. Matt Ryan learned that on Sunday when Smith sacked him. The Vikings continue to get a solid effort from defensive tackle Everson Griffin against a somewhat depleted Falcons offensive line. You start to get the sense that once head Mike Zimmer is able to clean up some of the clear mental lapses, that the Vikings defense should be running on all cylinders. Matt Ryan was able to have some success on check down plays that Zimmer would surely like to see corrected, he doesn’t want to see linebackers misdiagnosing the play.
NFL Week 3: Atlanta Falcons vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, September 18, 8:25 PM, Georgia Dome
The NFL week 3 saw the Buccaneers lose very heavily to a very inspired Falcons side. The Falcons 56-14 win over the Bucs was incidentally one of the Falcons biggest victories in their history. It is actually their second biggest victory in history, eclipsed only by their 1973, 62-7 victory over New Orleans. It also happens to be their only fifth victory with a margin of over forty points. This was one of their best days in office. They were in imperious form, to say the least.
In this game, played on an 18th Thursday night at The Georgia Dome, Atlanta, the Bucs were simply clueless and hapless. They couldn’t measure up to the visitors in all departments. They just couldn’t do anything right. Coming into this game, they had already lost all their first three games of the season. A win would have seen them break the losing streak and inject some new hope and morale in the team. However, they may console themselves that their four of their defensive starters were missing in action. Gerald McCoy was out with a hand injury sustained from their previous game in which they lost to St Louis.
The Falcons victory puts their season on track, boosting their morale ahead of their fifth game of the season. For the Bucs, nothing seems to be working well at the moment. They are like a ship in a sea storm. They have their work cut out if they have to salvage their season.
NFL Week 2: Atlanta Falcons at Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, September 14, 1:00 PM, Paul Brown Stadium

The same results were seen in second half. Atlanta Falcons did not score any point. However, the Bengals scored 14 points. The last quarter received scores from the Falcons only. At the match end, Atlanta at Cincinnati lost 10-24 points.
Bengal’s Mohamed Sanu caught 3 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. He also gave a 50 yard ball successfully to Brandon Tate. Atlanta Falcons had an under-performing defense against the Cincinnati Bengals. Devonte Freeman dropped a pass made to him by Matt Ryan. Carlos Dunlap hit Matt Ryan just after he had made the throw. Harry Douglas brought it to 41 after catching the fourth down. He however appeared to be hurt after he was hit while going out of bounds. He had gained 16 yards in the process. Atlanta at Cincinnati game was not a very tight game as seen even from the results of the scores.

Atlanta Falcons Season 2013 resulted in significant leadship changes
After a trip to the NFC Championship in the 2012 season, the Atlanta Falcons came out looking like a completely different team than the one that appeared in the NFC Championship. Finishing with a season record of 4-12, it was no surprise that significant changes in leadership took place as a result.
Although quarterback Matt Ryan threw a career-high 17 interceptions, the blame does not rest solely on him since he spent most of the time with his back on the turf. Ryan finished with an overall Number 14 rating among quarterbacks, but consistently dealt with an offensive line that showed no protection throughout the season. Having struggled with an O- line that finished with a rating of -44.6, as opposed to its 139.8 rating in 2012, Ryan struggled to stay in the pocket and have time to throw.
Adding to the lack of protection from the offensive line, Ryan suffered significant blows to his offensive weapon list in the Falcons 30-28 loss to the New York Jets. Pro-Bowl wide receiver, and leading receiver for the Falcons, Julio Jones suffered a fractured foot in that game which put him out for the season after needing surgery. Additionally, wide-receiver Roddy White suffered a hamstring injury in that same game. The injuries to Jones and White came just weeks after the Week 2 hamstring injury to running back Steven Jackson. Jackson was out for four games and then returned. Losing two of his largest weapons shortly after losing Jackson, combined with a weak offensive line protection, it is hardly a surprise that Ryan struggled this season. One of the most devastating games to Ryan came against the Carolina Panthers in which he was sacked 9 times and hit 14 times. In that same game, Carolina’s quarterback Cam Newton was only sacked and hit once.
However, it is unfair to blame just the offensive line because the defense had its own share of struggles and became more of a detriment to the Falcons than an asset. The struggle by Defensive Line coach Ryan Hamilton to develop the young linemen was apparent throughout the season. The Falcons never established a pass rush and finished in the bottom of the league in sacks. In addition to putting up only 32 sacks, 21 of those did not come from defensive linemen. The Falcons were also rated as one of the worst run defenses in the league.
However, 2013 first round draft pick Desmond Trufant came out and made his mark in the league and with the team as he served as one of the few assets of the defensive line. Having played 1,022 snaps as a rookie, he gave up only 3 touchdowns while allowing 53.4 percent of the passes that came him way to be caught. Trufant finished the season with the highest rating on the entire defense for the Falcons.
The defense finished 25th overall in the league, 25th in run defense, 32nd in pass rush and 26th in pass coverage. The offense finished 24th overall, 15th in passing, 21st in rushing, 30th in pass block and 23rd in run blocking for the league.
As a result of the struggles with the lines on both sides, the Falcons fired defense line coach Ryan Hamilton and offensive line coaches Paul Dunn and Pat Hill. Although Mike Nolan slid by the pink slips, it is without question the Falcons will be expecting more from the defense in the 2014 season or he could be next to be gone.
However, in the midst of the unexpected and horrible performance from a former championship contender, the 2013 season will always be remembered as the year the Falcons and their fans said goodbye to one of the best players to ever put on a Falcons jersey. Pro-Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez retired and played his last game in the NFL. Having recorded over 400 receptions, 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns in a Falcons jersey over the course of 5 seasons, it is certain that Gonzalez will soon have his name added in the Hall of Fame.
Although the youth of the Falcons, combined with the poor performances from veterans, may have ended the season with a losing record and disappointing performance. It is not far beyond belief to expect this team could easily turn around since their 12 losses came by a touchdown or less.
