Baltimore Ravens NFL season 2016 recap

From as far back as 2004-2005, The Baltimore Ravens have never missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons. This all changed after their loss to the Steelers in week 16. They ended the season with an 8-8-0 record. This was an improvement over the 2015 record of 5-11. Sadly, it was not good enough.

In the AFC North division, the Baltimore Ravens were second to the Pittsburgh Steelers who enjoyed a full standing of 11-5-0. Week 16 was a very sad Christmas for the Ravens. Their 4-game winning streak over the Steelers was broken and they were eliminated from the season’s playoff contention. The 2016/2017 season was a downhill affair. From a 13-7 win against the Buffalo Bills to bowing out with an embarrassing 27-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Ravens have their work cut out for them.

Many see the loss as a result of injuries on key players. How true? Only time can tell. In their defense, it is not every day that that the starting quarterback, left tackle, top running back and No 1 WR all miss heavy time. The highlight of the Ravens season was the talented kicker Justin Tucker. Of 39 attempts, he made 38 field goals. His 97.4 percent success rate is the best in NFL history. Boasting of a percentage of 89.8 percent in career field goals, he is the actively the leader of NFL’s career field goals.

NFL 2016 Week 17: Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, January 01, 1:00 PM, Paul Brown Stadium

The Ravens played the Bengals at the home ground of the Bengals. In the first quarter, the Bengals Rex Burkhead scored a 5 yard run, from a kick from Randy Bullock. Justin Tucker scored a 30 yard field goal for the Ravens. In the second quarter, the game continued at a fast pace, Randy Bullock scored a 23 yard field goal, and then a 24 yard field goal for the Bengals. The third quarter brought some incredible plays by both teams but the score stayed remained the same, with the Ravens on 3 – 20 to the Bengals.

In the fourth quarter, Kenneth Dixon scored a 1 yard run, which brought the Ravens score to 10, but Rex Burkhead brought the Bengals score to 27 through a 5 yard run. The Bengal’s have two injured running backs, and Burkhead hadn’t carried over nine times in a game, before the last two. His performance was reminiscent of his days as a younger player, and may have been what brought the victory to the Bengals.

NFL 2016 Week 16: Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, December 25, 4:30 PM, Heinz Field

The Ravens had their hopes dashed on Sunday game after 31-27 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The fans of Ravens had tried to block the memory of player Brown game winning touchdown catch. Player Weddle held down Brown at goal line .the receiver Pro Bow was able to stretch it just across the end for the score. The replays of the touchdown are played all over the internet showing how close were to stopping the Brown touchdown. Mosley the linebacker played perfectly well and cut across middle of the field to deliver a great hit onto Brown just before the end of the game.

Le veon the Steelers running back had monster day and also played a big part in 4th quarter mounting. Bell finished the game with 2 touchdowns and a total of 137 yards offense. The Ravens did not manage to bottle him as they did the last season. Bell is one of NFL best backs and he runs patiently to the defense as he did in this game. He waited for player Terrel outside linebacker to cut inside and try to tackle before he broke around the edge and this was a great gain.

NFL 2016 Week 15: Baltimore Ravens vs Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, December 18, 1:00 PM, M&T Bank Stadium

The Baltimore Ravens kept their play-off hopes alive at the game with a nerve-wracking triumph over the Eagles. The Ravens had its 2nd most noteworthy scoring of the season, and their defense team had great strategy towards the end to leave with the 27-26 triumph. They crushed the Eagles after Carson Wentz’s 2-point conversion fizzled.

Stanley did a good job halting Pro Bowl outside line-backer C. Barwin on a bull surge off the edge. The piece was especially amazing watching how far outside he began on the play, giving him around five yards to develop a running start before colliding with Stanley.

The line-backer Mosley may have spared the Baltimore Ravens’ season by getting his fingertips on a great pass from quarter-back C. Wentz on the 2 point conversion with 4 seconds regulation left.

The disappointing performance of Baltimore’s defense team was a big talk after the win, as the Ravens permitted one hundred and sixty nine total yards on the field. Philadelphia’s running back R. Mathews kept running for one hundred and twenty eight yards, and a few players indicated the Eagles’ stretch-zone framework as the source of their shortcomings.

As the Baltimore Ravens are celebrating their win at the Sunday game, they will hope to get more plays from outside line-backer T. Suggs. He played this run flawlessly by pushing back left handle J. Peters, setting the edge and afterward making make the stop in the open field.

NFL 2016 Week 14: Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots on Monday, December 12, 8:30 PM, Gillette Stadium

The Patriots turned out murmuring and overwhelmed the Ravens. Thumped them out and put them away. Driven by 20 focuses in the second from last quarter. All of a sudden, they began kicking the ball around, and an amusement broke out. The Ravens exploited, scored a couple of touchdowns. All of a sudden, they were alert, alive, around only three focuses in the final quarter, a paramount rebound triumph inside reach. They had fallen long ways behind which is as it should be. They were not the better group on this night. Their top-positioned guard had been pushed around for a significant part of the amusement by New England’s offense. Moreover, the Baltimore’s offense remained blunt just as it was in the previous week. Those substances stayed in play, and the Ravens couldn’t finish the rebound. Their resistance surrendered an enormous game. Their offense settled for field objectives instead of touchdowns on two late drives. That is a great formula for losing a diversion like this. The Ravens merit credit for transforming the defeat into an amusement, yet they didn’t play all around ok to win – not about alright, genuinely.

The Ravens had trusted their offense would proceed what it began a week before when it heaped up 38 focuses against Miami. However, this present night’s offense looked to some extent like that one. Yes, an evening diversion in New England is a far harder test than a home amusement against the Dolphins. What’s more, yes, the numbers wound up looking tolerable on paper, with quarterback Joe Flacco setting an establishment record for fulfillment in a diversion.

NFL 2016 Week 13: Baltimore Ravens vs Miami Dolphins on Sunday, December 04, 1:00 PM, M&T Bank Stadium

Everything that had gone well for Miami Dolphins during their 6 games run turned out badly in the Ravens’ 38-6 defeat of the Dolphins. Tannehill tossed the ball to the wrong team and he had 3 capture attempts. The pass defense was a strainer as Flacco roasted the Dolphins for 381-yards and 4 touchdowns on an establishment record of thirty six completions.

The Miami Dolphins did not get much good play on the ground in the 62-yards as a team. What’s more, they could not get off the field as Baltimore had a chance to convert five of eleven, third-downs and both 4th-down tries. The Ravens first took the ball and Flacco in an instant started carving up the Dolphins’ defense. He managed to complete 6 passes to different receivers in the first drive, including T. West, who topped the drive with a three yard touchdown catch.

In drive 2 was much the same as Drive 1 as Flacco went five of seven for 69-yards and yet there was another score to Dennis Pitta for the 13-yards. The openings were simply the most demoralizing of the Dolphins defensive series in the recent times.

There were eleven minutes and seven seconds left in the 1st half when the Ravens, took their game up to 14-0, taking over their own 12. With 18 plays later, Flacco and Pitta made another score that went 103-yards since Baltimore was docked 15 by the NFL officials, which took eight minutes, fifty seconds off the clock. There was more than a half of the game still to play but the game was already over.

NFL 2016 Week 12: Baltimore Ravens vs Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, November 27, 1:00 PM, M&T Bank Stadium

On Sunday 27 Cincinnati Bengals, led by Jeremy Hill and Andy Dalton took on their AFC North rivals, the Baltimore Ravens led by Joe Flacco and Steve Smith at M&T Bank Stadium.

This was another packed game with an attendance of 70903. Ravens’ second-ranked defense was the difference maker. Suggs had 2 sacks and forced 2 fumbles and the Bengals gained only sixty four yards on the ground.

Ravens had something to do with it, but Cincinnati was playing without running back Giovanni Bernard and wide receiver A.J. Green, both were injured last week in a match with the Buffalo. Green sustained a hamstring injury that could sideline him for several weeks and Bernard was lost for the season with a torn ACL.

The Ravens, meanwhile, scored their lone touchdown on the first drive of the game. After Ravens Flacco threw a 14-yard scoring pass to Breshad Perriman, Tucker added a field goal.

Baltimore Ravens claimed the win with a final score of 19 while their rivals Cincinnati Bengals had 14. “If you want to win, you want the ball in your hands,” Tucker said. “In my case, at your feet”.

NFL 2016 Week 11: Baltimore Ravens at Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, November 20, 1:00 PM, AT&T Stadium

The Baltimore Ravens played the Dallas Cowboys five days ago. Both teams were on the same footing that is, they both were at the top of their divisions. The Dallas Cowboys were on a winning streak and maintained it with their ninth consecutive win, when they beat the Baltimore Ravens 27-17. Dak Prescott threw two touchdown passes to Dez Bryant, two of his three touchdown passes in the game. There were six catches to Bryant for 80 yards. Tony Romo, after his back injury, was back in the game as a backup.

The Dallas offense had a slow start but it picked up with Prescott being 14 of 15 in the second quarter. The first half of the game was controlled by the Ravens. Joe Flacco hit a five yards scoring pass to Steve Smith for the Ravens. Smith established himself as the 14th player in NFL history to have 1,000 catches in his career. Ezekiel Elliott, the Dallas rushing leader, broke the rookie record held by Tony Dorsett in 1977, of 1,000 yards. It was a historic match for both teams but the Dallas Cowboys prevailed.

NFL 2016 Week 10: Baltimore Ravens vs Cleveland Browns on Thursday, November 10, 8:25 PM, M&T Bank Stadium

Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens will be an amazing game for any football fan out there. The Browns have not won a single game this regular season, and that’s a shame for this famous and outstanding team these days as well. Some people think that this might go the whole year without winning a single game. The Browns have lost their very first 9 games. Can you believe it? Yes, this situation has happened to this fabulous team, but it might change in the future as well. They will soon visit the powerful Ravens at Baltimore in Week 10 Thursday night.

The Cowboys defeated the Browns 35-10 recently. On Sunday, Baltimore won the game against the Steeler by a great touchdown. The Ravens are just now atop the famous AFC North as they have now a record of 4-4. The team should keep this place for at least an additional week, which is truly awesome for them as well. Baltimore is the favorite team to win the match at Las Vegas, as the Brown has not managed to defeat a single team this season. The team might also work hard to avoid any kind of blowout these days as well.

NFL 2016 Week 9: Baltimore Ravens vs Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, November 06, 1:00 PM, M&T Bank Stadium

When both Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens players entered the M&T Bank Stadium at 1.00 PM on Sunday, Nov 6, no one was certain that the hosts would emerge winners. The Steelers lost 14-21, making them drop three in a row while the ravens ended a four-game losing campaign and topped the AFC North.

One the side of hosts, Timmy Jernigan proved that he is a difference maker while Terrell Suggs show that he still pretty good playing with one arm. Also, Marshal Yanda proved that he can push forward strongly even with no helmet while Tavon Young showed that he can handle Antonio Brown, who is one of the toughest wide receiver & punt returner.

The Steelers veteran- Roethlisberger- was back after being out for at least three weeks with a knee injury. He looked synched and directed a number of yards, including the 65 & 74-yard drives that earned his side the final points.

The score was 10-0 at halftime in favor of Baltimore, and the game lacked scores until the fourth quarter when the hosts made crucial runs that earned them additional points. Chris Moore took a punt from Javorius Allen and directed it 14 yards taking the score to 21-0 with 13:35 to go.

Roethlisberger completed 23 of 45 passes for 264 yards while Flacco closed at 18 for 30 for 241 yards, helping his side win the game. There was a stream of penalties on both teams, something which slowed down their offenses.

NFL 2016 Week 7: Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets on Sunday, October 23, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium

Baltimore Ravens faced off against the New York Jets in what was otherwise a near-flawless match. Geno Smith, one of New York Jets’ key players was on top of his game leading the team in the highly competed match. Jets’ Brandon Mashall seemed determined to overturn what can be regarded as his team’s losing streak over the past four matches. On the other hand, Joe Flacco from the Ravens proved he was not an easy to beat player after giving the Jets a hard time throughout the entire match. The Jets have struggled with a weak offense over the last couple of matches and this time was no exception.

The Ravens have a strong defense that was able to defend its team against the Jets. The Jets were determined to win but the Ravens could not afford to loose. However the Jets replaced Ryan Fitzpatrick with Geno Smith and we can only wait to see how this replacement will work out for the team in the upcoming matches. Both Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets teams are great at what they do and fans are waiting to see how both teams will score in the future.

NFL 2016 Week 6: Baltimore Ravens at New York Giants on Sunday, October 16, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium

It was tough game for the Giants. It came down to seconds at the goal line. Odell Beckham Jr. made every single one of his 222 yards count – most coming in the second half. It took a good twenty minutes before the Giants achieved the first 1st down of the match. They got their offense together in the second half. Eli Manning produced 403 yards – two of those bombs to Beckham of course — reminding everyone why they are a serious combination. This is the first time this year we are seeing Beckham let loose down the field, proving that he’s the best player on Metlife Stadium.

The Ravens had their moments of self-sabotage throughout the game. With fifteen penalties that amounted to 111 yards. Ravens wide receiver Mike Wallace, in post-game interviews, said that it was more of the same mistakes as the last games – jumping off sides, delay of game, unnecessary roughness. It will not help the Ravens next week now that outside linebacker Terrell Suggs is out next week on a biceps injury. His ability to stop the run and force the running back upfield was integral to the Ravens’ defense against the Giants.

NFL 2016 Week 5: Baltimore Ravens vs Washington Redskins on Sunday, October 09, 1:00 PM, M&T Bank Stadium

The Washington Redskins gave a strong performance last Thursday when they beat the Baltimore Ravens 16 to 10 at Baltimore. It was perhaps an uncharacteristic win for the Redskins as their defense comes ranked as 29th in the league. They have however had an okay run for the past few games as this recorded their third straight win after having lost two straight games at the beginning of the season.

The Redskins got off to a rocky start, allowing a touchdown from the opening drive, but quickly regained their composure, and started terrorizing the Ravens with great passes and good movement on the ball. The game changing shift in momentum came in the third quarter when the Redskins were up 13 to 10 thanks to a 50-yard drive, and close to their own 3. Ravens linebacker got in the way of a pass by Redskin Kirk Cousins at the 13, but didn’t manage to keep the ball in his control when he was reaching for the end zone. As a result, the ball went out of bounds and the Redskins moved over 70 yards for a field goal and a resounding 16 to 10 lead to secure the win.

NFL 2016 Week 4: Baltimore Ravens vs Oakland Raiders on Sunday, October 02, 1:00 PM, M&T Bank Stadium

Last game day saw a football clash with Oakland Raiders at Baltimore Ravens. The hosts seemed confident but the Raiders had surprise preparation for the clash. For both teams, they seemed to prove their best of skills and tricks. With the previous tight games that the Raiders have had, they have polished most of their accuracies, even in the cornerbacks.

The choice to bring in Rivera Mychal brought more thrilling performances, and a rough time for the Ravens. Another remarkable player for the day was Marquette, with over five punts in the 20-yard line. The Raven had swift pass-through, thanks to the coordination between the line markers and the attackers.

Although they conceded a 28-27 defeat, their players had great performances, only that the goal accuracies have a slight problem. Crabtree was the man for the Raiders with Touchdown record against the well-set Ravens. The defenders for the hosts always had a hard time stopping this player, especially with the hidden passes from the centre backs.

A critical look on the gameplay showed a struggling third down efficiency for the Oakland Boys. Of all the third downs in the game, they only managed 25%, which is dangerous, if the team is to play with a stronger team. For the Baltimore Boys, the relax mood may not be working for them.

NFL 2016 Week 3: Baltimore Ravens at Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, September 25, 1:00 PM, EverBank Field

On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens did improve to 3-0 with a comeback win of 19-17 over the Jacksonville Jaguars. This game had lots of excitement, mainly in the final 5 minutes, and the Baltimore Ravens managed to come-away with the victory to remain undefeated on this NFL season. Defensive-tackle Timmy Jernigan is one of-the team’s best-players through the first 3 games, and plays similar to this are the reason why. The 3rd year defender showed-off his combination of strength and speed by sliding in the left-guard and then obtaining good push on-the center.

On the other hand, the Jacksonville Jaguars went down to 0-3 for the 3rd-time in the last 4 years and surely you’ll hear more talk regarding coach Gus Bradley’s job-security. Bradley’s performance, now 12-39 in 4 seasons, is the second worst winning-percentage of any NFL-coach with not less than 50 games.

The Jaguars had lots of chances of winning this game in a wild 4th-quarter. They forced 3 consecutive turn-overs in the final-frame. However, they only got a field-goal out-of it. Blake Bortles threw 3 interceptions, including 2 in a wild 4th quarter, marking the end of drives within Baltimore territory. Jason Myers managed to have a 52 yard field-goal blocked. Many were hoping that Elvis Dumervil, Ravens outside linebacker, would be able to play this match but he still remains out as he is dealing with a foot injury.

NFL 2016 Week 2: Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns on Sunday, September 18, 1:00 PM, FirstEnergy Stadium

The comeback witnessed when the Baltimore Ravens came from behind to beat the Cleveland Browns is the second biggest in the franchise’ entire history. Earlier, Timmy Jernigan had spoken about playing with more energy on each play. True to his words, Jernigan proved he meant what he said by beating Josh McCown, Brown’s quarterback in the third quarter. Kamalei Correa lost his helmet while blocking at the scrimmage line but that did not distract him from helping his team inflict damage to their opponents.

He kept on blocking around 25 yards downfield. During that time, he even received a sizeable blow on his face from Tank Carder, Brown’s linebacker. Ravens start was slow in the first half but by the second quarter, they were determined to score by all means possible. Indeed, the team did struggle during the first quarter of the game. Fortunately, though, they got back on their feet around the end of the game through a pass from Joe Flacco. Cleveland Browns may have started with a quick pace, but the Baltimore Ravens were the ones who had the final showdown with a heavy total score of 25 points. The Cleveland Browns finished about 126 yards, with seven first downs in the second half of the game.

NFL 2016 Week 1: Baltimore Ravens vs Buffalo Bills on Sunday, September 11, 1:00 PM, M&T Bank Stadium

The Buffalo Bills didn’t have luck at making an upset in their game against the Baltimore Ravens. Instead they fell to the Ravens 7 to 13, losing by a touchdown. The loss was strange because there was a lot of faith put into the offensive team that the Bills have constructed, but they fell apart during the game with a terrible ratio of yards won to yards lost. They managed to gain about 7 yards to the Raven’s 204 in the first quarter alone.

Fans of the Bills had to be started by the performance that their team put on, managing to score only a single touchdown in the second quarter before they were thoroughly beaten by the Ravens. It looked, briefly, like they could catch up to the other team and that the third quarter would be theirs. But in the end they couldn’t put it all together and claim the victory that they were no doubt hoping for. Let’s hope that the Bills manage to step up their game by next time, and that the Ravens stay strong; after all, what’s football when both teams aren’t at their best? It certainly isn’t as entertaining, that’s for sure.

NFL Preseason 2016 Week 4: Baltimore Ravens at New Orleans Saints on Thursday, September 01, 8:00 PM, Mercedes-Benz Superdome

Last Thursday was a sequel to the New Orleans Saints, and their preseason losses. They lost to Baltimore Ravens 23-14 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Hoping to bring some good Karma Saints head coach, brought Dew Brees, Saints quarterback to play for the first time since his first season with the New Orleans Saints in 2006, in the final preseason game.

The Saints started with anearly lead when Brees charged an offense through a 61-yard goal drive. He completed 50% of his 6 passes for 40 yards including a spectacular back-shoulder connection with receiver Willie Snead IV, then Luke McCown took over. The first team offense came from Running back, Mark Ingram, who had three carries for 21 yards.

Garrett Grayson ended the game as quarterback for the saints. He went for 98 yards, 11 to 16 with a no interception touchdown.

For the Baltimore Ravens, the preseason ended with an outstanding 4-0 record. Unlike Brees, Joe Flacco maintained his no-playing streak for the 7th year. Ryan mallet completed 8 of 12 passes for 65 yards whereas Josh Johnson, had a great night completing 18 of 24 passes for 181 yards and a fourth quarter 2-yard touchdown. Looks like his dreams to take the backup spot from Mallet just got realer.

NFL Preseason 2016 Week 3: Baltimore Ravens vs Detroit Lions on Saturday, August 27, 7:00 PM, M&T Bank Stadium

It was an enthusiastic match for Detroit Lions at Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens took home advantage to award their visitors with a 30-9 defeat. Although they had an overwhelming defeat, they have many loopholes they require to feel. Most of the game play was in the attacking section, which is partly dangerous if the opponent is stronger.

Thornton and Ngata had weak defense ideas for the Lions and had many collisions that bore 35 carries on 134-coverage area. The most remarkable player for the team was Zettel who was all over the field and eventually scored. Levy DeAndre’s return to the game had zero impact maybe because the formation did not favor him.

Both teams lost goal opportunities but that of Pratter Matt was a lifetime miss. However, he scored three goals while Bell increased the lead with two swift goals. The most notable lack of the match was kick returns. It seems the coaches’ wants to maintain a skillful game. Nevertheless, one from Billingsley graced the whole match.

The Lions’ boys had a tough time in the match, as every player seemed to lose grip of the ball. In addition, they played a rough game that gave the Ravens enough penalty advantages to win the game. The Detroit coach will have to reorganize his whole team, if he wants to compete in the NFL season.

NFL Preseason 2016 Week 2: Baltimore Ravens at Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, August 20, 7:00 PM, Lucas Oil Stadium

The second preseason’s game for the Indianapolis Colts was between them and the Ravens. This game had all the advantages directed to the host team the Colts. However something went wrong in the course of the play and they had to lose but with a close range to the Ravens. If it was not for the conversion points that they went for maybe they would have remained on top of the game. That conversion really costed them. You would have not predicted that it will fail.

Generally the game was exciting from both teams. They all worked hard to remain on top of the game so as to book better plays when the season opens. There were a number of moves that when placed together all across the game they made the day to be a real excitement to both the fans and the players at larger. Scenes like having back a legend player Andrew Luck after he was away from the field since November. He played really well and therefore impressed the fans and showed a cool comeback to the team.

NFL Preseason 2016 Week 1: Baltimore Ravens vs Carolina Panthers on Thursday, August 11, 7:30 PM, M&T Bank Stadium

Carolina Panthers at Baltimore Ravens faced off in what was expected to be a highly competed match. The Panthers kicked off the game in a high momentum but unfortunately could not hold on with the Ravens and ended up losing 19-22. Though the Panther’s offense was on top of its game giving Raven’s defense proved their dominance by turning the match around. However, this was fairly a competitive match and one can predict that the next game may have different results. In the first series of the game the Baltimore was going down as Panthers shut them down seven yards only.

However, a fumble from quarterback Derek Anderson, Carolina got an interception that may have been returned for a penalty or a touchdown on quarterback Cam Newton. Later, the defense lost their motivation and started to give up chunks of yards. Ultimately, Panthers gave up their 10-point lead. It was easy to observe that the Panthers defense had a few problems. In conclusion, Baltimore is not an easy team to beat as their offense cannot be looked down upon. Though the Panthers fought hard their defense will need to be better prepared next time. The Baltimore Ravens came out victorious and we can only wait to see more from this team.
