New York Jets NFL season 2015 recap
New York Jets 2015 season saw the team succeed in upholding their records in just five games at the start of the 2015 season. Under the management of a new coach Todd Bowles starting their performance was at 4-1. The team fell to 5-5 prior to embarking on a five-game winning spree clinching their winning season since the year 2010.
As the season progressed, they later lost to Buffalo Hills where they together with the Pittsburgh Steelers finished 10-6. The Jets finished the season as the league’s only team with a winning record that did not entail making the playoffs. The 2015-2016 New York Jets season saw the team’s management decide to dispose of its head coach Rex Ryan and the general manager Hohn Idzik in December of 2015 marking the end of the franchise era.
Nevertheless, the jets are not better off in 2016 than when the coach Ryan was hired several years ago. 2015 saw the jets finish the season with a 4-12 record as they did not reach .500 in the AFC East. In the 2016 season, the Jets are anticipated to win the AFC at +2500 and at +5000 to win the AFC championship. 2015 season was full of poor performance, and they are renovating the lineup for 2016.
NFL Season 2015, Week 17: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills on Sunday, January 03, 1:00 PM, Ralph Wilson Stadium
The New York Jets’ playoff hopes are up in smokes thanks to a 22-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Rex Ryan got fired by the Jets last season and took over the Bills this season and he got his revenge. The end of the game saw Ryan Fitzpatrick getting intercepted in the final three possessions. It is hard for a team to reflect on a season where they tried so hard and they came up short in their attempt to make the playoffs. Words can’t describe their feelings as they hop on their bus as they have nowhere else to go but home.
Fitzpatrick returned to Bufffalo three years after he was cut by the Bills and his collapse saw the crowd stand up to a magnificent roar because they knew they had won the game. The Bills were already eliminated from the playoffs for the 16th straight season which is the league’s longest playoff drought. They basically had nothing to play for when they suited up against the Jets. Of course, Rex Ryan would not have it any other way than to end the playoff chances of the Jets and that is exactly what happened. He said he had friends there so he wants them to succeed one day.
NFL Season 2015, Week 16: New York Jets vs New England Patriots on Sunday, December 27, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium
In overtime the Patriots chose to kickoff (after winning the coin toss), the Jets took advantage of a 48 yard catch by Quincy Enunwa, and a twenty yard catch made by Brandon Marshall. These two catches put the Jets into scoring position, which they did on a six yard catch made by Eric Decker. The Jets need to beat the Buffalo Bills next week to clinch the final wild card spot and eliminate the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Patriots have clinched the AFC East already (and a first round bye), but have yet to wrap up home field.
Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 26 of his 41 pass attempts, throwing for 296 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Fitzpatrick also lost a fumble in the game.
Tom Brady completed 22 of his 31 pass attempts, throwing for 231 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. His lone touchdown pass in the game, came at an opportune moment for the Patriots, as it tied the game and later forced overtime.
At halftime, the Jets led by seven points, 10-3, and in the second half were outscored by seven, 17-10. This led to a tie game at the end of regulation, forcing overtime. The Jets wasted no time scoring, they scored on the first possession of overtime.
NFL Season 2015, Week 15: New York Jets at Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, December 19, 8:25 PM, AT&T Stadium
The New York Jets had a very close game versus The Dallas Cowboys on this Saturday night football. Their game ended up with this score – 19-16. The Jets now move to 9-5 this season. The Cowboys drop to 4-10 and sadly eliminated from the playoff.
The Cowboys began their game starting with a field goal after an opening drive stalled in the red zone. Then Matt Cassel got flagged of his intentional grounding on an interception to Darrelle Revis. Jets could not take on no more with The Cowboys player Cris Ivory on his foot down in the red zone so far.
There were some scare thoughts about Eric Decker with his serious-looking injury, but everything was alright as he returned in the second quarter of the game. At that time of the game Bilal Powell found the end zone with a 12 yard touchdown.
The Jets definitely had some chances to take control of this game, but Dallas made them pay. Cowboys took a 10-9 lead.
Something happened with The Jets in the fourth quarter. Fitzpatrick turned into a superhero. He hit up Decker for a 10 yard touchdown. Then Moore set up Dan Bailey for a 50-yard field goal.
Jets were having the moments of their time. Fitzpatrick hits Kenbrell Thompking for a major 43 yard reception. Then Bullock made up his unbelievable miss by hitting 40 yard field goal and gave the Jets the lead.
NFL Season 2015, Week 14: New York Jets vs Tennessee Titans on Sunday, December 13, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium
Ryan Fitzpatrick was again the man of the day throwing three touchdown passes giving the New York Jets a well deserved victory of 30 – 8 against the Tennessee Titans whose performance was nothing short of dismal. Marcus Mariota and team could do nothing to stop the offense that scored five of its total six possessions. The defense neither was anything that the Titans could just get past and this just heightened the fact that it wasn’t going to be their game.
Brandon Marshall, Bilal Powell as well as Eric Decker each had a moment with the ball, catching each a TD pass. This means that the Jets stay on course for the AFC playoff spot. This is their first three game winning streaks in four years. Fitzpatrick had a great game with a career high for him in a single season after throwing 25 TD passes. The only high moment as far as the Titans were concerned was in the third quarter when Antonio Andrews and Mariota connected fro a 41 yard touchdown. It was a great game overall with some records being set and others broken on the night that most couldn’t have expected anything less from both sides but the Jets came into this game with a lot of criticism from the media as to if they could manage to beat Titans.
NFL Season 2015, Week 13: New York Jets at New York Giants on Sunday, December 06, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium
The Giants are running out of time. They only have five short weeks to make the playoffs. If they fail they will have a four-year streak of not making the playoffs. Their Week 13 game against the Jets didn’t allow them to make any progress, with the final score being 23-20 in the Jets’ favor. The Jets only managed to gain 3 points in the first quarter and 7 points in the second, and when the Giants had the ball in the second quarter the scored a whopping 20 points, making it appear as if they had the game in the bag.
However, their luck soon ran out with the Jets securing 10 points in the fourth quarter, tying up the game and pushing it into overtime. With the score 20-20, it looked like anybody’s game until Randy Bullock kicked a field goal for 31 yards, giving the Jets a 3-point lead and making the final score 23-20. This shocking victory for the Jets marked the Giants’ third straight loss. Things may have gone differently had Josh Brown succeed in kicking his field goal for 48 yards with 6:33 on the clock in overtime, but his slip-up ended up costing the Giants the game and setting them back even further during an already lackluster season.
NFL Season 2015, Week 12: New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins on Sunday, November 29, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium
The Jets were 1-4 in their last five games coming into this matchup against the Dolphins. They were, however, able to notch their fourth win of the last five against Miami in this game (including the blowout loss the Jets handed the Dolphins this year in London). Miami has lost four of five, making them win three of the seven games with interim coach Dan Campbell, who took over as coach after the London game. The Dolphins are last in the AFC East right now, while the Jets currently have the sixth seed (second wild card spot) in the AFC.
Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 22 passes out of 37, throwing for 277 yards with four touchdown passes and no interceptions. Two of his touchdown passes went to Brandon Marshall.
Ryan Tannehill completed 33 passes out of 58, throwing for 351 yards with three touchdown passes and one interception.
The Jets led early, pulling ahead 14-0 by halftime, the Dolphins would figure out how to score in the second half, scoring all 20 points in the second half (thirteen of which came in the fourth), but the Jets added 24 points to their total, to assure a win. The thing that won it was a 31 yard rushing touchdown by Chris Ivory that involved him breaking four tackles.
NFL Season 2015, Week 11: New York Jets at Houston Texans on Sunday, November 22, 1:00 PM, NRG Stadium
In order to beat the Jets, the Houston Texans, playing with their different quarterback for the third time this season, knew that they would need to add new flavor to their offence. T. J Yates who was playing the quarterback for the day got his passing game aided a lot from Cecil Shorts who is the receiver for the Texans. The 24 – 17 victory meant that the Texans have now won their game three in a row which hasn’t happened to them since 2012. Yates, playing for the first time since January 2012, where he played in the playoffs as a rookie threw 229 yards which was really incredible.
On the Jets side, Ryan Fitzpatrick was playing for the first time since his surgery on the throwing thumb which was on November 2013. He got a touchdown with 4 and a half minutes left on the clock that saw the Jets get to 17 and that is how the game sadly ended for them. They never advanced advanced past that scoreline despite their impressive game. Overall, the game had its fair share of ups as well as downs and injuries too. The Texans however can only hope to continue with their winning streak as they surely need it.
NFL Season 2015, Week 10: New York Jets vs Buffalo Bills on Thursday, November 12, 8:25 PM, MetLife Stadium
The Bills win the game over a fellow AFC East team, the Jets by five points. They took advantage of three field goals made by kicker Dan Carpenter, and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown to win the game and further their chances at making the playoffs. On the other hand, the Jets are 1-3 in their last four games. The two teams will play again this season, the next matchup will take place in Ralph Wilson Stadium, where the Bills play, in the very last game of the regular season.
Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor completed 17 passes after 27 completions, with one touchdown pass and no interceptions.
Ryan Fitzpatrick threw two touchdowns and two interceptions on fifteen completions and 193 yards in the loss to his former team.
The Bills outscored the Jets 12-3 in the first half of the game, and it would help them win the game. Because even though they would be outscored 14-10 in the second half of the game, they still wound up finding a way to win. A key play in the game, was the Jets moving the ball deep inside the Bills territory, without being able to push the ball into the end zone.
NFL Season 2015, Week 9: New York Jets vs Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, November 08, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium
The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered a close defeat at the hands of the New York Jets who were in a mid season crisis as well as facing an embarrassing loss in their home field. This win for the jets came courtesy of Chris Ivory as well as Ryan Fitzgerald, who by the way was playing with a torn ligament in his thumb but managed to run two scores which was just amazing considering the injury. The Jets brought their A game and showed that they could actually get away with this and they did.
The game was at one point described as low and ugly but it produced the results needed to ensure that the Jets got their points. Brandon Marshall caused a stir in the fourth quarter when he made a 20 yard touchdown that was just remarkable. Well, the Jets now have to prepare for their next game as this game was just great considering they were at home. Overall, they provided an excellent performance that was enough to see them through this one and they can only hope to repeat the same fete when they face their former coach in their next game against Bills. Well deserved win for the Jets though.
NFL Season 2015, Week 8: New York Jets at Oakland Raiders on Sunday, November 01, 4:05 PM, O.co Coliseum
The Raiders had a big day against a team that is struggling. But they also proved that they are to be taken seriously as a playoff contender.
Derek Carr threw four touchdowns, and 333 yards on 23 completions in the win against the Jets. One of his touchdown passes was for 49-yards to Holmes that gave the Raiders a 21-3 lead at the end of the first half. He has no interceptions and seven touchdown passes in the last two games.
Geno Smith threw two touchdowns and had 265 passing yards on 27 completions in the loss. He replaced the injured Ryan Fitzpatrick, who left in the game with a torn ligament in his thumb on the very first Jets drive.
The Raiders have their first winning record in November in four years. They had some other players step up big in this game; Charles Woodson added an interception, Andre Holmes caught two touchdowns, Michael Crabtree had one touchdown catch and 102 yards receiving, and Latavius Murray rushed for 113 yards. At the same time, the Jets are on a bit of a slide, they have lost their last two games.
The Jets gave up 21 points in the first half, and only scored six. They would, however outscore the Raiders in the second half by one point, 14-13, but by then the damage had been done.
NFL Season 2015, Week 7: New York Jets at New England Patriots on Sunday, October 25, 1:00 PM, Gillette Stadium
The New England Patriots continued their unbeaten run on Sunday by beating the New York Jets 30-23. They came from behind to earn this very much deserved victory at the hands of the Jets who never seemed to want to win the game anyway. The game was really entertaining in the first half and there was a very clear game that the Jets were going to win but that was short lived as the Patriots came from behind to carry the day.
The Jets redone problems that were two can only be described as their fault for letting such a game slip from their hands. The jets had two clear chances to score from the 2 yard line but they wasted these two very precious opportunities and they have none to blame but themselves.
Though the Patriots outsmarted them in most of the game’s plays, they had clear opportunities to seal the game once and for all but they failed to do this. Anyway, it was a really great game that was highly competitive and had a fair amount of good plays that would have kept anyone entertained for the fair share of the game.
NFL Season 2015, Week 6: New York Jets vs Washington Redskins on Sunday, October 18, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium
The Jets overcame early turnovers to beat the Redskins, 34-20. The Skins could barely move the ball on offense and finished with 225 net yards for the game compared to the Jets’ 474.
The Jets first play on offense was a fumble by Eric Decker. The Washington offense managed to finish a 37-yard drive for the first touchdown of the day. New York responded with an 11-play, 83-yard drive ending with a Chris Ivory touchdown run. The second quarter was a field goal contest with the Skins having the advantage 2-1.
The underdogs from Washington led at the half, 13-10, but their dreams of an upset were quickly dashed in the third quarter. 17 points by the Jets and the Skins were done for the day. The fourth quarter saw the Jets tack on another touchdown on a pass reception by Decker. The Redskins scored a special teams touchdown when Rashad Ross recovered a blocked punt in the end zone.
Chris Ivory was the star on offense for the Jets. He had 146 yards on 20 rushing attempts and got loose for a long 54-yard scamper. Their quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, had a solid day throwing for 253 yards on 19/26 and 2 touchdowns.
The Redskins were playing without their regular starting left tackle, left guard and center on the offensive line. Quarterback Kirk Cousins was constantly throwing short passes under pressure. He finished the day 25/43 for 196. His 4.56 yards per attempt just isn’t enough to win an NFL game. Combined with 34 net yards rushing on an average of 2.0 yards per rush and the Redskins had no chance. Defensively, Bashaud Breeland was a bright spot for Washington as he had a forced fumble and an interception.
NFL Season 2015, Week 4: New York Jets at Miami Dolphins on Sunday, October 04, 9:30 AM, Sun Life Stadium
Chris Ivory ran for the 166 yards of career high and a touchdown in the Jets at Dolphins. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw 218 score on Sunday to lead the Jets far above the Miami Dolphins at the Wembley Stadium. Ivory ran in from the three yards on the first possession. The New York Jets finally managed to pile up the yards and got a superb win.
The Jets managed to gain 425 yards and this score includes the career high of 166 for Chris Ivory in the 27-14 win. Jets’ Linebacker clearly remarked “We Play Aggressive” and so such instances occurred. Ryan Fitzpatrick started playing well for the Jets by completing the 58-yard pass to Marshall. It was Ivory who kept getting the ball and carried the milestone of 5.7 yards per run and that too 29 times. The Jets ended with the 207 yards and this includes 34 from Fitzpatrick. Jets could take a sigh of relief when Brent Grimes suffered a knee injury. However, Dolphins failed to carry through the big game.
So, it was the first occasion when Jets played in the International Series while 3rd times for Dolphins. Last year it was Dolphins who beat Oakland Raiders and they lost their first game in the year 2007.
NFL Season 2015, Week 3: New York Jets vs Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, September 27, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New York Jets by scoring 27 to 17. This win has now made the eagles to climb up the NFL 2015 regular season and are now 1-2 on the standing table. The eagles who showed their winning intention in the early minutes of the game never disappointed their funs as they were able to marshal their players both tactically and physically therefore being able to defeat the sluggish New York Jets.
Despite missing the services of key players such as Kiko Alonso, Mychal Kendricks, Cedric Thornton and Taylor Hart, the remaining eagle players tried all their best and were able to force four turnovers and the linebackers only allowing 17 points from the jets’ players. It was the eagle defense that was so powerful and was able to carry the team to victory.
During the match Sam Badford proved be pretty brutal to the jets. Badford who played in a similar manner to Nick Fules and at some point he could be seen struggling to throw accurate passes and even looked too hesitant and slow. However with everything that happened in the field, the funs of the playing teams were contented with the results of their respective team showing the sign of maturity and true sportsmanship during the game.
NFL Season 2015, Week 2: New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts on Monday, September 21, 8:30 PM, Lucas Oil Stadium
Andrew Luck threw one touchdown, 3 interceptions and lost a fumble. Two of his interceptions and the fumble were caught and recovered by Darrelle Revis. He was 21 of 37 with 250 passing yards. He has now thrown five interceptions in two games. The Colts as a team turned the ball over a total of 5 times.
An offense that supposedly one of the league’s best, was held to 107 yards of total offense, and shut out in the first half for the second straight game, the first time this has happened since 1997. Frank Gore also botched what would have been a touchdown drive by fumbling the ball at the Jets’ five yard line toward the end of what was a 79 yard drive.
Early in the fourth, it was a close game at 10-7, the Colts’ defense being their only saving grace up to then. Until then, they only allowed a touchdown after a short drive due to a Luck interception. Vontae Davis left the game with an injury, and the Colts couldn’t hold the Jets any longer, giving up another touchdown.
Last season, the Colts started 0-2, just like this one; they were able to win 5 right after that before losing to the Patriots in the AFC championship game. We’ll see if Andrew Luck can turn the ship around and get them one round further, just like he’s done in each of his last 3 seasons.
NFL Season 2015, Week 1: New York Jets vs Cleveland Browns on Sunday, September 13, 1:00 PM, MetLife Stadium
Ryan Fitzpatrick led the Jets to a decisive 31-10 victory over the Browns on Sunday. Fitzpatrick, who took over the staring position after Geno Smith was injured in a preseason fight, had 179 yards passing and two touchdowns. The turning point in the game came in the 2nd quarter, just after the Browns had jumped out to 7-0 lead, when Fitzpatrick threw an interception to Tyresse Gipson who in turn fumbled the ball. The Jets receiver, Brandon Marshall, recovered the ballat the 9 yard line and setting up their first score of the game — a 10 yard run up the middle by Ivory. The victory was the first for the Jets new head coach Todd Bowles, who replaced Rex Ryan in January.
The victory celebration was dampened by two injuries to key Jet players. Rookie linebacker, Lorenzo Mauldin, was taken off the field with head and neck injuries during the fourth quarter. The latest reports are that he sustained a concussion has all of the feeling in his extremities. The Jets also lost Antonio Cromartie during the second quarter of play with a leg injury. The good news is that the MRI shows that Cormartie did not tear his ACL and has been diagnosed with a sprained knee. There is no word yet on when he might be able to return.
Josh McCown started the day at quarterback for the Browns but sustained a concussion late in the 1st quarter. Johnny Manziel replaced McCown, throwing for 182 yards, one touchdown and one interception. After throwing his first touchdown pass in the 2nd quarter, Manziel committed three turnovers in the second-half, the Jets turned two of the three into touchdowns.
