Denver Broncos NFL season 2015 recap

Denver Broncos started the season on a low point after losing at the Divisional round. The team went through stiff training and even losing their head coach John Fox who was replaced by Gary Kubiak. These changes were not the only challenge for the team as they suffered many injuries especially on the offensive line. Their defensive coordinator Wade Phillips established one of the most outstanding defenses in NFL that ranked first in total yards, sacks and passing yards.

This led to the team setting various records on an individual level, franchise and league record. The Broncos even earned their fifth-consecutive win in the AFC West division title. Other outstanding records set by the team include their four times first-round bye and also the AFC’s number 1 seed a third time in the previous four seasons. One of Broncos’ highlight in the season was their victory over Pittsburgh Steelers in the Divisional round.

They also defeated New England Patriots in the highly competed AFC Championship game. The greatest highlight of the season was Denver beating Carolina Panthers during their first Super Bowl 50. The team’s defense was on point earning the point just one touchdown, total 44 points and more than 18 points in all playoff games. This was an outstanding record and we cannot wait to see more from Denver Broncos.

NFL Season 2015 Super Bowl: Denver Broncos vs Carolina Panthers on Sunday, February 07, 6:30 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

The Super Bowl game between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos took place on Sunday, 7 February 2016 at Levi’s Stadium, ending with a win of 24 – 10 for the Denver Broncos. This was the close-out game for the NFL season, raising questions about whether Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos would be returning for another season in 2017.

Manning can be proud of having giving the game all he has over the years with accomplishments such as most valuable player in five leagues, the oldest quarterback to win the Super Bowl, Hall of Fame, the first to win 200 games – he ended the current chapter of his career by winning the Vince Lombardi trophy. With another win under the belt and a successful but emotional end to his career, Manning remains secretive about his future. Whatever this 39, year old, stalwart’s plans are – the football fraternity wishes him well.

The Denver Broncos defense did not come up with its most memorable performance, only managing 194 yards, the least for a Super Bowl winning team. Their defense however won the day with a single touch down and goal – keeping the Panther’s offence at bay, despite an average of 31 points a game during the regular season. It was largely due to the efforts of the powerful Von Miller that the day was won. Recording seven sacks and forcing Newton to fumble twice, resulting in two touchdown conversions, his performance earned this Super Bowl linebacker most valuable player honors for the day. The Denver Broncos will certainly be remembered for their prowess in this game for years to come, surprising though their win was to some.

Haled as the flashy new superman quarterback for the Carolina Panthers and having walked away with NFL most valuable player honors on Saturday, Cam Newton was supposed to have brought his A game to the field on Sunday. Unfortunately, it was just not his day as Newton could not match up to the experience of age brought to the field by Manning and Von Miller. Perhaps the competition between Manning and Von Miller had something to do with Newton’s loss as their stand-offs began during their college careers. Whatever the case, Von Miller now sports a Super Bowl championship, while Newton does not. With many good footballing years ahead however, there is plenty of time to turn the game around for this Panther. Maybe next time!

NFL Season 2015 Conference Championships: Denver Broncos vs New England Patriots on Sunday, January 24, 3:05 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

Denver Broncos won over New England Patriots by riding defense for super bowl bid. The broncos have historically depended on a defense that gave up fewest yards and won time and again with game saving plays.

Peyton Manning lumbered down the field for a 12 yard gain and made a first down Sunday. Now it will be the Denver Broncos and not the New England Patriots and Tom Brady who will play in the Super Bowl.

In spite of his 39 year age Manning managed to ensure Denver Broncos 20-18 victory until such time that Broncos cornerback Roby picked Brady’s pass for a 2 – point attempt which would have tied the game with 12 seconds left. Aqib Talib came in front of Brady’s pass and deflected it and Roby picked it.

Manning is the oldest quarterback to take his team to Super Bowl. Manning could become the first quarterback to lead two different teams to titles.

Broncos pressurized Brady during the whole game. He managed to finish 27 for 56 for 310 yards and two picks. In the fourth quarter he threw a 40 yard pass to Gronkowski who was double covered for a desperation drive going on fourth-and-10.

NFL Season 2015 Divisional Playoffs: Denver Broncos vs Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, January 17, 4:40 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

The Steelers’ resistance almost safeguarded Pittsburgh out, compelling the Broncos into a third-and-12 situation. On the other hand, Manning then hit the greatest go of the game, interfacing with wide collector Bennie Fowlerfrom 31-yard consummation to the Pittsburgh 36. Fowler had two basic drops before in the game before securing the catch that prepared for a wounding completion to Denver’s unequivocal drive.

Manning on, who drove his 55th calling redirection winning drive in the last quarter or additional time and second in his playoff vocation, then went to wide gatherer Demaryius Thomas for the two-point change and a seven-point Denver good position.

Manning finished completed 21 of 37 goes for 222 yards.

The Steelers managed a 49-yard field objective by kicker Chris Boswell with 19 seconds left, however Anderson recuperated the Steelers’ onside kick, and Manning took a knee to run out the latest couple of minutes.

The Steelers came into the preoccupation without two of their top threatening playmakers, wide gatherer Antonio Brown, who upheld a power outage in the extraordinary case win over the Cincinnati Bengals a week prior, and running back De Angelo Williams, who has been sidelined with a foot harm.

Roethlisberger, playing through shoulder hurt, completed 24 of 37 passes and with 339 yards, topping 300 yards for the second time this season against the Broncos. No other quarterback came to 300 against Denver this season.

Pittsburgh surged in front at the start with the help of a noteworthy play by wide gatherer Martavis Bryant, who shook free for a 40-yard get on an opposite play to the Denver 16. Toussaint brought after with a few runs, including a 1-yarder for the touchdown to put the Steelers up 7-6.

NFL Season 2015 Week 17: Denver Broncos vs San Diego Chargers on Sunday, January 03, 4:25 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

Its not uncommon for NFL teams to slack off towards the end of the season and we tend to see this with teams who have already made the playoffs. However, this past Sunday, we were presented with two games the left viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end.

Brock Osweiler has had a lot of success with the Broncos in his rookie season, and this trend continued during the first half of Sunday’s game. Osweiler was able to assist his team to a 7-6 lead at halftime. However, this was also the first week Peyton Manning was on the active roster since his injury during the early season. Bronco’s fans were skeptical whether or not they’d see Manning play, or if Osweiler would remain in control. Their questions were answered in the 3rd quarter when Manning was subbed in after Osweiler committed a few turnovers.

Manning seemed to be in impeccable form and helped guide his team to four scoring drives within the last 20 minutes of the game. Manning not only helped his team score 20 points to win the game 27-20, but he also led his team to the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs. This is huge seeing as they get an extra week to rest before their next game. All in all, the Chargers were able to put up a good fight, even if their playoff hopes had already been squandered.

It was nice to see them playing to win and playing for their San Diego fans since this might be the last season before they move to Los Angeles. In the end it was not enough to match the Broncos who await their next opponent in two weeks.

NFL Season 2015 Week 16: Denver Broncos vs Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, December 28, 8:30 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

Denver punched its playoff ticket thanks to a fumble recovery by DeMarcus Ware in overtime against Cincinnati on Monday night. AJ McCarron, starting in place of the injured Andy Dalton, mishandled the snap from center Russel Bodine, giving Ware the opportunity he needed to snatch up the ball and seal the victory and Denver’s fifth straight playoff berth. To add insult to injury, or injury to insult in this case, McCarron injured his left wrist on the play.

The fumble recovery made Brandon McManus a part-hero, having hit a 37-yard field goal on the Bronco’s previous drive. He was almost the villain, though, as he shanked a 45-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that would have won the game for his team.

The Bengals had jumped out to a 14 point lead through almost two full quarters of play thanks to an A.J. Green catch and Mohomed Sanu run, but McManus gave the Broncos life with just 14 seconds left in the first half. Then, it was Denver’s turn as they racked up two touchdowns, including a long, 39-yard run from C.J. Anderson. Mike Nugent tied it up in the fourth quarter with a 52-yard kick, which was followed up by McManus missing later in regulation, then making late in overtime, with Ware sealing the deal.

NFL Season 2015 Week 15: Denver Broncos at Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, December 20, 4:25 PM, Heinz Field

The Pittsburgh Steelers rallied from behind to cause an upset and beat the Denver Broncos last December 20, 2015. After a dismal performance in the early part of the game the Steelers found themselves down by a large margin during halftime. However the wind blew towards a different direction in the 2nd half. The Steelers, whose defense were easily by-passed early in the game, took control of the 2nd half and they finally took the lead with 3:24 minutes left in the game when a Roethlisberger gave a 23 yard dart to Ryan. The precursor to this series of events was when Ryan Shazier intercepted Brock Osweiler. The Pittsburgh Steelers stopped the Broncos twice during the final minutes of the game. Denver was disappointed after giving up an early lead and losing the entire game.

Major Contributions were from Ben Roethlisberger as Pittsburgh dominated the Denver Broncos, the NFL’s best defense, after giving the Denver Broncos a 17 point lead. The Pittsburgh Steelers have now won 10 games in a row in December. They will be hosting Baltiomore next while Denver will host Cincinnati next week. With two weeks to go, the win over Denver secured Pittsburgh wild card spot in the AFC’s.

NFL Season 2015 Week 14: Denver Broncos vs Oakland Raiders on Sunday, December 13, 4:05 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

On Sunday, there was a hard fought game between the Oakland Raiders and the Denver Broncos. Although Vegas had the Broncos winning by 9 points, the Raiders held their ground and came off with a win in Denver. What was the main factor? Defense. The score was 15-12, which was 12 points lower than the score that Vegas put on the game. Denver’s defense shutout Derek Carr and the Raiders offense, only allowing 8 first downs and a total of 126 yards. However, the Raiders took advantage of Denver’s lack of ball security and forced two fumbles, not to mention all of the drops that the receivers of the Broncos had. On top of that, the Raiders defense forced a safety.

Although the Raiders offense ended the first half with a pitiful -12 yards, but they also missed a field goal and later in the game almost missed an extra point. The second half was when they got their offense together and start moving the ball against arguably one of the best defenses in all of football. While Carr threw for only 12-29, he managed to score two touchdowns through the air. Brock Osweiler and his offense just could not seem to get the ball across the paint, thus settling for 4 field goals. The now 6-7 Raiders are still trying to get their spot in the AFC wildcard, and with this victory, that may very well happen.

NFL Season 2015 Week 13: Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers on Sunday, December 06, 4:05 PM, Qualcomm Stadium

It seems that Broncos were too welcomed in San Diego given who easily they smashed the Chargers with 17-3.

Chargers defensive coordinator John Pagano was wright to be concerned about Osweiler and should’ve worked harder with Mick McCoy to stop him and come up with more effective defensive then a patchwork offensive line.

Demaryius Thomas received a 3-yard touchdown from Osweiler on the game opening drive and Danny Trevathan interception on Philip Rivers and returning it at 25 yards brought them a score to lead the broncos to victory.

Being this a home game you might expect at least a touchdown from the Chargers, but it’s now a second home game without one, which is not looking good for them.

C.J. Anderson run 22-yards and gave 21-yard pass to Thomas. And Osweild found Thomas wide open in the end zone. Proving that the Broncos had more superior game play.

Maybe it is the stress from moving the team, given that this might have been the penultimate Chargers game in San Diego that contributed to their poor game or because Coach Mike McCoy, 21-23 in three seasons, has not been offered an extension.

But whatever it is it gave the Broncos a quick start and even quicker win.

NFL Season 2015 Week 12: Denver Broncos vs New England Patriots on Sunday, November 29, 8:30 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

The Patriots were handed their first loss of the season by the Broncos, who had backup quarterback Brock Osweiler stepping in for Peyton Manning once again. Leaving only the Panthers as the only unbeaten team left in the league; this is the first lost for the Patriots since 2014.

Tom Brady had 23 completions after 42 attempts; throwing for 280 yards, three passing touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Brock Osweiler, showing that he can play in Manning’s absence, also had 23 completions after 42 attempts for 270 yards with one touchdown pass, and a single interception. In his fourth season in the league, he has never started a single game at all, but this year has had two. He’s won both of them.

It is possible, if it is in fact true that is Peyton’s last season, that Brock will take over and be the successor to the great and all mighty Manning.

The Broncos were down 14-0 in the second quarter before scoring a touchdown. They would outscore the Patriots 17-10 in the fourth quarter (neither team would score any points in the third quarter). This tied the game at 24, forcing overtime. A 48 yard run by C.J Anderson wound up winning the game for the Broncos.

NFL Season 2015 Week 11: Denver Broncos at Chicago Bears on Sunday, November 22, 1:00 PM, Soldier Field

Peyton Manning, who has several injuries, sat out Sunday’s game against the Bears; after being benched the week before against the Chiefs, a game that saw him throw four interceptions. He has been underperforming all season, throwing nine touchdowns and seventeen interceptions; this might just be the end of his long career. The Bears came up short on a failed two-point conversion attempt at the end of regulation that would have tied the game up. This was their attempt to try and make it to .500 for the season.

Broncos backup quarterback, Brock Osweiler stepped in and won the game against the Bears. He threw two touchdowns, no interceptions for 250 yards on twenty completions after 27 attempts. The first one was a 48 yarder on the Broncos’ first possession of the game. Osweiler also threw what became a deciding touchdown pass in the fourth quarter that put the Broncos ahead by eight points.

Jay Cutler completed eighteen passes on 32 attempts Sunday for 265 yards, throwing no touchdowns and one interception. Cutler also lost a fumble in the game.

Entering halftime, the Broncos had a 10-6 lead, and would go on to be outscored 9-7 in the second half. In the third quarter, the Bears were able to put up an unanswered three points. It was not enough, however, for the Bears to come from behind and win the game.

NFL Season 2015 Week 10: Denver Broncos vs Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, November 15, 4:25 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

The Kansas City Chiefs made a run at one of the toughest defenses in the league, the Denver Broncos. This time, the Chiefs manhandled the Broncos 29-13.

Peyton Manning had a terrible day at quarterback. He went 5 for 20 for 35 yards before being benched in the third quarter and replaced by backup quarterback Brock Osweiler. Manning had been battling injuries and this time it seemed the injuries were too much for him to make the big plays he is used to making.

This crushing loss to the Chiefs leaves the Broncos with a 2 game losing streak and a record of 7-2. Not the way a team wants to enter the second half of the football season with all eyes on trying to make the playoffs.

The win for the Chiefs gives them a record of 4-5 and gives them hope of making the playoffs this season.

Coach Gary Kubiak of the Broncos made the move to replace Manning at quarterback with the longtime backup Osweiler. Osweiler went 14 of 24 for 126 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. It is worth noting Manning threw for 4 interceptions and no touchdowns. Make no mistake, Peyton Manning will be back under center soon.

NFL Season 2015 Week 9: Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, November 08, 4:25 PM, Lucas Oil Stadium

Indianapolis Colts inflicted the Denver Broncos with their first loss of the season, 27-24. However, it wasn’t an easy victory, though well deserved. The Broncos had literally swept every team before them before this game. In the first quarter, the Colts took off with gusto, taking it 7-0. Try as they could, the Broncos struggled to catch up with them, losing the second quarter 7-10. Realizing that they were actually buckling under the pressure of the Colts, the Broncos woke up to reality, holding off the Colts in the third quarter, finally prevailing 10-0. However, they failed to break the resilient back line of the Colts, as well as their marauding forwards, going down 7-10 in the last quarter.

Going forward, the Colts, at 4-5, have their work cut out if they have to maintain their winning ways. They cannot afford to rest on their laurels. Their next opponents, the Falcons, lie in wait, themselves having lost their last game 16-17 to 49ers. The Falcons will definitely be looking to bounce back to winning ways, hence presenting the Colts with a tough march. On the other hand, the Broncos have just been roused from slumber and we can expect them to turn tables on their next opponents, the Kansas City Chiefs. However, they have learned their lesson of under-rating opponents the hard way. In their last game, Kansas City Chiefs ran riot against the struggling Detroit lions. Therefore, we can expect quite a tough game for the Broncos.

NFL Season 2015 Week 8: Denver Broncos vs Green Bay Packers on Sunday, November 01, 8:30 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

In the heated game between the Denver Broncos and the Green Bay Packers, it was not very easy to tell who would win the game because both teams seemed determined and prepared enough. However, the Broncos had a great offense that handed the Green Bay Packers their first loss of the season. As Manning made the throws for 340 yards, the Broncos positioned themselves, passing the ball, showing speed, agility and team work to move up from their 7-0 record hitting the Packers hard with a perch victory of 29- 10.

After showing a pretty strong defense at the beginning of the game and thus being undefeated for the first six games, the Broncos finally broke their offense completely taking the Packers by surprise. However as the offense grew stronger the defense grew weak and thus limiting Rodgers to 77 yards in passing the 14- of- 22 passings. This may have wreaked their game a litle bit but the improvised and making it work for them making them win the game anyway. The Broncos improved to 7-0 thus beginning the season for the second time in their history in the game.

NFL Season 2015 Week 6: Denver Broncos at Cleveland Browns on Sunday, October 18, 1:00 PM, FirstEnergy Stadium

The Denver Broncos played against the Cleveland Browns. The game was hosted by the Browns, who were hoping to upset the previously undefeated Denver Broncos that came into the game 5-0. The game started off with Denver scoring first, with a field goal in the first quarter. By halftime, the Broncos were up 10-0. By the end of the third quarter, the Browns had finally scored, and were out by less than a touchdown with the score being 13-7. Come the end of the fourth quarter, however, the Browns stunned the crowd by tying the score at 23 all. The game went into overtime with Denver coming out on top, leaving with a score of 26-23, and a 6-0 record. The Brows dropped to 2-4.

Josh McCown looked pretty good during the game, with a total of 213 yards and 2 touchdowns when all was said and done. Payton Manning came back from throwing 3 interceptions to end up with 290 yards and a touchdown. The Browns only had the lead once during the game, but it was actually short-lived, as Payton Manning came back with another touch-down after a mere 14 seconds.

NFL Season 2015 Week 5: Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders on Sunday, October 11, 4:25 PM, O.co Coliseum

The Broncos vs the Raiders was another classic between these two rivals that came down to the very end. Manning was having a rough day and just could not get anything going offensively. In the past Manning was known for leading his team into victory and this year it seems he is just a long for the ride.

Not to say he is not an important part of this Denver Broncos team, but the defense had to take over for him this time as he had no touchdowns and two interceptions. For the Raiders, Derek Carr was the only person to be able to provide a touchdown for the whole game as with the Broncos the rest were field goals. It was a slow game throughout and was not anything very exciting until the very end when the Broncos stole the game away from the Raiders.

A seventy four yard interception returned by a touchdown by Chris Harris Jr. how has done a solid job for this Defense all year. This game was a battle of defenses and it came down to which defense was going to have the bigger play at the right moment and the Broncos were able to pull it off.

NFL Season 2015 Week 4: Denver Broncos vs Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, October 04, 4:25 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

The Broncos took on the Minnesota Vikings in Denver and took a quick lead, earning 13 points in the first quarter, while bringing Minnesota’s offense to a stop. It seemed the Broncos had an easy win for the day, but with the Vikings intercepting one of Peyton Manning’s passes the game was 13-10 by the end of the second quarter. Despite the presence of a comeback, Denver extended their lead once more to 20-10 in the 3rd quarter.

Minnesota’ star running back, Adrian Peterson, took matters into his own hands and led a charge that put the game back to a 3 point difference. Afterwards the Vikings earned a field goal to tie the game at 20-20. However, in the 4th quarter, Manning shrugged aside his setbacks and came out gunning the ball. He hit a 17-yard pass to Emmanuel Sanders and then on the next play hit Bennie Fowler for 11 yards. CJ Anderson and Ronnie Hillman moved the chains until Denver was set up for a 39-yard field goal attempt. With just under 2 minutes to go, Denver’s kicker, Brandon McManus, took center stage at this crucial moment.

Keeping his perfect record for the season, McManus made the field goal bringing Denver to a 3 point lead at 23-20. It was up to Denver’s defense to clinch the win and they pulled it off. Denver took the victory keeping their perfect record for this season.

NFL Season 2015 Week 3: Denver Broncos at Detroit Lions on Sunday, September 27, 8:30 PM, Ford Field

The timeless Peyton Manning completed 31 out of 42 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Denver Broncos to a 24-12 victory over the winless Detroit Lions. Operating out of the shotgun formation for most of the game, he was sacked just once compared to 7 sacks in the previous 2 games. On the other side, Detroit’s Matthew Stafford was sacked 4 times.

The first quarter was listless as both teams struggled to move the ball. Denver took the lead in the second quarter when Ronnie Hillman scored from the 1-yard line at the end of an 80-yard drive. The Lions responded on the next possession with a touchdown drive featuring a spectacular catch by Calvin Johnson of a pass that was certain to be intercepted. Joique Bell finished off the drive with a 1-yard dive over the top of the pile for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was blocked and almost returned for a touchdown thanks to the new point after rules. With 5 seconds left in the half, Manning found Demaryius Thomas for a 45-yard touchdown pass. Detroit’s cornerback Darius Slay gave up the touchdown and was also picked on in the second half for a long reception in a touchdown drive for Denver. Owen Daniels clinched the win for Denver when he jumped high to catch a Manning pass with 2:28 left in the game.

The statistics for the game were fairly even between the two teams. The difference being the 4-1 advantage in sacks for Denver and more big plays by Manning than Stafford.

NFL Season 2015 Week 2: Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, September 17, 8:25 PM, Arrowhead Stadium

The Broncos capitalized off Jamal Charles’ second fumble of the game to win their seventh straight over the Chiefs. All three fumbles the Chiefs coughed up, resulted in the Broncos recovering the ball.

The Broncos’ defense took the ball away from Kansas City five times in this game. Two interceptions, one of which was due to Alex Smith’s arm getting bumped, and the three fumble recoveries. After the Broncos came back from a 14-0 deficit in the second quarter, the game was neck and neck. This fumble recovery was returned 21 yards to put them ahead for the first time in the game to stave off overtime.

Peyton Manning threw three touchdowns and an interception and 256 yards on 26 completions in the win. The interception Manning threw was returned for one of the Chiefs’ three touchdowns. Already, Peyton has thrown 2 interceptions and both have been returned for touchdowns. He now has 14 wins in 15 starts against Kansas City.

Alex Smith threw two interceptions, 191 yards on 16 completions in their loss. Both teams put up a total of 55 points after a scoreless first quarter. The Broncos and Chiefs go up against each other again this year in mid-November, this time in Denver.

NFL Season 2015 Week 1: Denver Broncos vs Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, September 13, 4:25 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High

The Baltimore Ravens started their new season with a 13-19 loss to Denver Broncos in a game that saw a high scrutiny in both team offences. Denver Broncos started the game on a high note by hammering the Ravens 6-0 in the first quarter. The Ravens on the other hand made a positive reply with a 3-3 draw in the second quarter and a promising 10-7 win in the third quarter. The Ravens however suffered their second defeat in the fourth quarter by 3 points.

Former Denver playmaker Darian Stewart was the tormenting factor to the Ravens. He snatched the ball from Crockett Gilmore with only 28 seconds left to seal a 19-13 win over his former team. Baltimore recorded a single touchdown in the entire game thanks to an effort by cornerback Jimmy Smith who ran for 24 yards. Broncos replied through Aqib Talib who made a 51 yard interception to put the Broncos in the lead at 16-13.

The Ravens will be hoping to make a tricky comeback when they visit the Oakland Raiders who suffered a 33-13 hammering at the hands of Cincinnati Bengals. On the other hand, the Broncos will be hoping to keep their unbeaten run when they visit Kansas City who also recorded a win over the Houston Texans.
