Chicago Bears NFL season 2015 recap

Chicago Bears finished at position 14 in the 2015/2016 National League. The season marked a disappointing experience despite a promising start of the campaign. The team registered six victories, two losses overtime, and eight losses. Hence, Chicago Bears attained total points of 335:397 characterized by a winning percentage of 0.313. Nonetheless, the current results mark an improvement from last season’s results in which the team had a record of 5-11 in the NFC North division.

The results, even though not so convincing largely emanated from the tactical changes introduced by the Denver Broncos and Ryan Pace, who serve as the head coach and team manager respectively. Chicago Bears never reached the playoff stage but marked a commendable improvement and tactical shift in their game approach. The current system that encompasses players and technical bench with many skills makes Chicago Bears a team to reckon in the present and future games.

Therefore, it is an indication of continuous improvement and the desire to instill a winning mentality and play in the playoffs. Particular players lived to expectations in the current season. They comprise Jay Cutler and Key Game. Jay Cutler organized his position as a reliable quarterback thereby becoming earning respect across all quarters of the team. Similarly, Key Game displayed his tactics and played with an adorable precision throughout the competition.

NFL 2015 Week 17: Chicago Bears vs Detroit Lions on Sunday, January 03, 1:00 PM, Soldier Field

Coming into the game, the Lions were in 6th position overall in the NFL. They were also 4TH and 2nd place in total offense and passing offense respectively. Per game they had a 336 yards in total. Calvin Johnson and Mathew Stafford put the Lions in a very good position being the ones that lead the attack against the Bears.

Reggie Bush is also a great asset to the team seeing that he adds to the total attack through his dual threat which amounts to 125 yards in total. However, the team is weakened by the fact that one of their players, Nate Burleson is out with a broken arm. On the other hand, heading into the game, the Bears have a 96-65-5 record above the Lions which gives them quite the upper hand. This are some of the most wins that NFL has had in history.

In scoring, the Bears rank 3rd but when it comes to total offense they are 22nd. Brandon Marshal is by far the Bears’ greatest asset and has played a major role in getting the team to victory. The team however has other amazing and strong players that are also great assets to the team. Examples of these players are; Matt Forte and Jay Cutler who seems to be taking quite good offense for the team.

NFL 2015 Week 16: Chicago Bears at Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, December 27, 1:00 PM, Raymond James Stadium

Both Bears and Buccaneers have game makers that are likely to brighten the scoreboard in a few. Buccaneers lost their game falling 26-20 to the Bears. Game critics think the game was still winnable. Buccaneers have not had much success in challenges their worth even with alterations in their offensive line. Tandy had performed extremely well at the start of the season recording three stops in two drives. He still has room for himself on the roster although his appearance was not much in the rest of the games. Buccaneers needed big plays and Charles Sims delivered.

The Bears win came in with a challenge. The second half of the game was on with constant rain. Jay Cutler was able to throw 130 yards. The disappointing Buccaneers were unable to overcome the other side. The alterations in the Tampa Bay offensive line that counted up to four of five however did not perform as much it was anticipated. One can say the same for the Bucs but more will always be anticipated from experienced players with exemplary previous performances while at their former teams.

NFL 2015 Week 15: Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, December 20, 1:00 PM, TCF Bank Stadium

The game between Bears and Vikings was played on Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium where Vikings emerged the winners with 38-17 win. The bears took the starting kickoff to the 50 but they had the first snap of the game and were called back on holding a penalty. The Vikings on the other hand took their initial drive for thirteen plays and 93 yards. Peterson was not running into the line and was shortly controlled by Teddy Bridgewater Lamarr Houston was the one to give Vikings the first touch down through an offside penalty and Bridgewater found Diggs 15 yards that let them to take the early lead.

The following drive for the Bears was brief and uneventful because Cutler was wrapped up and pushed down since he badly threw his arm. Bears were therefore forced to punt immediately. On the second and 8 of the following drive, Bridgewater found McKinnon again for 30 yards. After a sack from Willie Young, Wash Blair knocked a 53 yards home making it a 10-0 score.

The Bears were found in a little offense of their own since Jeremy Langford picked up 16 on 3 plays. Cutler found Mariani for 14 yards and pushed into Vikings territory. Cutler was sacked immediately for 9 yards and the Bears were forced to punt again. In the next play, Bridgewater dumped it to McKinnon just before Hurst Dove into his upper leg. The game ended with the Bears beating Vikings 38-17.

NFL 2015 Week 14: Chicago Bears vs Washington Redskins on Sunday, December 13, 1:00 PM, Soldier Field

Washington won a very important game, a game that gives them the lead in their division. A division that features three teams looking to go to the playoffs. The only way these teams will get there, of course, is by winning their division. If not, they will lose out on the wild card to either the Vikings or Seahawks. The Bears do not have much of a chance to get to the playoffs, they are technically still in the hunt, but there would have to be a lot of things to happen to help them get there.

Kirk Cousins completed 24 of his 31 attempts for 300 yards of his own, and had one touchdown as well as one interception. He also scored a rushing touchdown in the game.

Jay Cutler completed nineteen passes on 31 attempts, throwing for 315 yards and two touchdown passes and no interceptions in the loss. He also fumbled the ball, giving it to Washington.

Washington scored in every quarter of the game to make sure they did not lose ground in the very tight NFC East race. The Bears, on the other hand, scored all their points in the second and third quarters. The fourteen points that the Bears scored in the third quarter, tied the game up. An field goal early in the fourth quarter sealed the win for the Redskins. They were helped by the Bears’s kicker, Robbie Gould who missed another late field goal.

NFL 2015 Week 13: Chicago Bears vs San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, December 06, 1:00 PM, Soldier Field

On December 6, 2015 the 49ers, as guest team pulled off a 26-20 overtime upset, leaving the Chicago Bears too surprised to react on the field or off in the margins.

It might have been a good game for the Bears if its kicker Robbie Gould didn’t missed a field goal that for sure it would’ve helped them to win the game. But the 49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert, not a very good quarterback, throwing Torrey Smith a 71-yard touchdown that won the game, didn’t help the Bears at all.

Maybe it would’ve been better for the Bears not to underestimate Gabbert at focus more on him then on Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback he replaced. As Tomsula said, Gabbert listened and he really enjoyed the game.

The Bears seams to play a good and effective game, but all the effort of their quarterback Jay Cutler who completed 18 of 31 passes for 202 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception, couldn’t help them.

Even with Matt Forte’s rushing for 84 yards and a touchdown and Jeremy Langford adding 59 yards on 10 carries, the game in Chicago will mostly be remembered for the missed opportunity of the Bears to reach the playoffs.

Well Gould’s miss didn’t helped them too, but dreams are dreams.

NFL 2015 Week 12: Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers on Thursday, November 26, 8:30 PM, Lambeau Field

In the NFL game between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler threw for over 200 yards and a score. Bears’ coach John Fox was quoted as saying “It was just really a good team effort defensively.” The freezing cold rain made for an intense game of football, and the scores were very close right up until the clock ran out. On fourth-and-goal from the 8 with 22 seconds left on the game’s clock, the Bears held off the Packers for a 17-13 victory. The Green Bay Packers had won six of its earlier seven games at Lambeau in the series, and had honored Brett Favre’s number at half time.

Despite this homage, the team lost, and Bears’ coach John Fox said that “Looking at guys in that locker room that had been here for a minute and maybe not had great success here — Jay included. It was fun to watch.” Cornerback Tracy Porter intercepted Aaron Rodgers’ pass with 3:19 left at the Bears’ 45 on the previous drive and Robbie Gould’s 21-yard field goal in the last quarter was the only scoring for either team in the second half of this Thanksgiving Thursday game played in the nasty rain and the cold.

NFL 2015 Week 11: Chicago Bears vs Denver Broncos on Sunday, November 22, 1:00 PM, Soldier Field

Peyton Manning, who has several injuries, sat out Sunday’s game against the Bears; after being benched the week before against the Chiefs, a game that saw him throw four interceptions. He has been underperforming all season, throwing nine touchdowns and seventeen interceptions; this might just be the end of his long career. The Bears came up short on a failed two-point conversion attempt at the end of regulation that would have tied the game up. This was their attempt to try and make it to .500 for the season.

Broncos backup quarterback, Brock Osweiler stepped in and won the game against the Bears. He threw two touchdowns, no interceptions for 250 yards on twenty completions after 27 attempts. The first one was a 48 yarder on the Broncos’ first possession of the game. Osweiler also threw what became a deciding touchdown pass in the fourth quarter that put the Broncos ahead by eight points.

Jay Cutler completed eighteen passes on 32 attempts Sunday for 265 yards, throwing no touchdowns and one interception. Cutler also lost a fumble in the game.

Entering halftime, the Broncos had a 10-6 lead, and would go on to be outscored 9-7 in the second half. In the third quarter, the Bears were able to put up an unanswered three points. It was not enough, however, for the Bears to come from behind and win the game.

NFL 2015 Week 10: Chicago Bears at St. Louis Rams on Sunday, November 15, 1:00 PM, Edward Jones Dome

The Chicago Bears played the St. Louis Rams in a very breathtaking game. The Rams lost and their ambitions to reach the playoffs now hang on a thread. The Rams defense is quite a formidable force but what we learnt is that just like any other defense, they can have a bad day in the office. The Bears defense was amazing and ensured that they got one big play after another. The Rams were unable to cope with Zach Miller and in the end paid the price.

He had 107 yards and on top of that scored twice. He was definitely the player who stood out in the game. The game also confirmed that Todd Gurley is a very important player in the Rams offense. However, the Bears limited Gurley to 45 yards on 12 carries. Basically, if any team wants to stop the Rams, Todd Gurley is the player to mark. The Rams dream of reaching the playoffs is not entirely over. All they have to do is avoid any more losses and their dream will remain valid. Their schedule is against two teams which they can easily win but they still need to work on their offense.

NFL 2015 Week 9: Chicago Bears at San Diego Chargers on Monday, November 09, 8:30 PM, Qualcomm Stadium

This Monday Night Football game featured two teams who, nine weeks into the football season, probably are not going to the playoffs this season. The Chargers extended it’s losing streak to five games, and the Bears snapped their two game losing streak. That does not mean, however, the game was not a thrilling game to watch; even though there was only eighteen points scored in the fourth quarter.

Jay Cutler led his team to victory with 345 yards through the air, with two passing touchdowns, one lost fumble, one interception, and 27 completions after 40 attempts. His two touchdown passes in the game broke the previous Bears touchdown pass record of 139 held by Sid Luckman.

Philip Rivers had 26 completions of his own on 42 attempts that racked up 280 yards and one touchdown, and no interceptions.

The Bears were down thirteen points after two quick touchdowns, one of which on an interception was returned for a touchdown. This turned the game around because after this, the Bears started to get something going, scoring a touchdown in the second quarter while only allowing another field goal. But, the Bears would score fifteen points in the fourth quarter in comeback fashion to erase a nine point deficit (16-7) against the Chargers, who only scored three points in the second half.

NFL 2015 Week 8: Chicago Bears vs Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, November 01, 1:00 PM, Soldier Field

The Vikings appeared to be losing the late Sunday afternoon game against the Bears when a touchdown was made 5 minutes remaining hence leading a 20 – 13 advantage but the vikings caught up easily because of the struggling receiving corps. The vikings pulled up a 23 – 20 win. Though the vikings seemed to be losing this game, it ended up being Minnesota’s first win in Chicago since 2007. Adrian Peterson broke through the Bear’s defense and he ended up carrying the club’s offense for most of the day.

The vikings came up strong with this win. The Bears had beaten the viking 13 out of 14 match-ups played in Chicago. The Bears had also won seven straight match-ups against the Vikings at Soldier field.

The Vikings defense consisted of the most feared tacklers of the season. The Vikings also had to see off some of the best players due to injuries, Diggs, who had six catches on Sunday and now has a total of 25 catches on the season, made a very big impact on the game. With about 27 seconds remaining Charles Johnson came back for the Vikings. The 26-year-old 6-2 receiver scored a 36-yard game winning field goal for the Minnesota Vikings. The determination and willingness of the Minnesota Vikings led them to victory over the Chicago Bears.

NFL 2015 Week 6: Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 18, 1:00 PM, Ford Field

The eternal rivalry between the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions is one of the most long lasting of the NFL history, since 1930 these teams have met at least once in every season, the results Detroit Lions (37) and Chicago Bears (34) at the Ford Field on last Sunday, the star Matt Prater kicked an extraordinary 27 yard field goal with only 2:29 overtime, helping Lions to get their first victory of the season, Chicago score a total of 444 yards, but Detroit got within 546 yards, having 3 turnovers, against Chicago that only had one, but leading in the ball possession with 38:57, moreover Lions got 26 1st downs, when Bears were close with 24. Chicago player Robbie Gould didn’t disappoint at the beginning of the first quarter with a 27 yd goal field, a 23 yard in the second, a extraordinary 38 yard goal field in the third and a 29 yard in the fourth, however, with their defeat Bears drop to 2-4 heading into their week. Nevertheless, Detroit Lions are placed in the last position in the NFC North Standing.

Nonetheless, both teams left so much effort in their plays on the field, and at the end Detroit just was a bit luckier than Chicago, but is notorious that Bears still have so much work to do in the few next matches, Detroit is having an encounter with Minnesota Viking next Sunday, Chicago is facing the same rival in the next week.

NFL 2015 Week 5: Chicago Bears at Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, October 11, 1:00 PM, Arrowhead Stadium

Initially, the Chiefs started this match on a good footing. They were in the lead very early in the match thanks to two surprisingly brilliant touchdowns. Everything was going on fine for the Chiefs then suddenly, Charles went down with an Injury deep inside the Chicago Bears territory. He was immediately helped to the Locker room. Disaster struck the Chief’s Line up once Charles left and the Bears started to take the lead. There is no doubt that the Chiefs did exceptionally before they lost Charles, but his contribution to their initial lead soon became history. It is worthy of note that the Chiefs lost this Match to the Bears at the scoreline of 18-17 in a spectacular fashion that has not been seen in a long time. This is the worst loss for the Chiefs ever to be remembered considering the fact that the Chiefs were in the lead with a scoreline of 17-3 before Charles’ injury.

Even after Charles’ Injury, the Chiefs were still in the lead with three minutes left in the Match. The Bears rallied to score a touchdown from a beautiful pass from Cutler to make it 17-12. As if the Chiefs have not been tortured enough, they were in the lead with 18 seconds to go when the bears got a penalty and won the match 18-17.

NFL 2015 Week 4: Chicago Bears vs Oakland Raiders on Sunday, October 04, 1:00 PM, Soldier Field

The game between the Chicago Bears and the Oakland Raiders played saw the Raiders lose to the Bears. This win put an end to the back and forth between the two teams. As most sports analysts will agree, this was not an easy win. It was even tougher for the bears bearing in mind that one of their key players, Jay Cutler, had a hamstring injury. This however did not stop him from starting the game.

The hook up between Jay and Marquess Wilson completed with a pass to Eddie Royal who did the touch down. This saw the Bears take lead. This lead no doubt put pressure on the Raiders to equalize. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so in the first quarter.

To ensure that they reclaim the game, the raiders started the second quarter on a offensive. Unfortunately, this did not proceed as expected. Despite the multiple tries and the tough game they were unable to match up to the bears.

The bears were also keen on making sure that they take the win home. They put up a spirited fight to stay on top of the game. This game was a do or die as they had not secured any win in the season. In the end it was rewarding as the Bears managed to safely secure their first win in the season. The Raiders on the other hand lost and fell to 2-2.

NFL 2015 Week 3: Chicago Bears at Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, September 27, 4:25 PM, CenturyLink Field

In the Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks game, the Bears suffered their own terrible loss with a 0-26 loss. Kam Chancellor was back on the field and ready for his team’s first victory of the season. With the loss of Jay Cutler, the Bears had a battle on their hands, as they too fought for their first win. Matt Forte was held to 74 yards on 20 carries and the Bears finished with just 37 yards. During the first half fans weren’t sure what to expect with the 6-0 lead over the Bears and then the second half came and Seattle opened up with a 105 yard return to score a touchdown. Tight End Jimmy Graham had seven catches for 83 yards and a touchdown, RB Thomas Rawls had 15 carries for 101 yards. Not everything was rosy for Seattle though. Marshawn Lynch left the field at halftime with a hamstring injury. Defensive Tackle Brandon Mebane also suffered a groin injury and didn’t return to the game. Rumors have it Lynch’s hamstring injury is nothing to be concerned about. I guess we’ll see next week when Seattle plays the Lions on Monday night.

The Seahawks came into the game with a 16 point favorite and they more than covered the spread with their blowout 26-0 win. The Bears fall to 0-3 with their first shutout since 2002.

NFL 2015 Week 2: Chicago Bears vs Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, September 20, 1:00 PM, Soldier Field

The Soldier Field in Chicago was the home of another adrenalin drawing game. This time it was the Arizona Cardinals taking on the Chicago Bears. At the end of the day, the cardinals triumphed over the bears, thrashing them 48-23. With the results, the Cardinals improved their season to (2-0), while the Bears declined (0-2). The Cardinals were on a demolition mission with Carson parker throwing four touchdowns. Although, the Bears suffered an upset with Jay Cutler leaving with a hamstring injury, their performance was still lackluster compared to the display created by the Cardinals. Having only returned a week earlier, Carson showed that he was here to stay and the Cardinals know with him on the line up they can beat anybody.

Fitzgerald also looked to be on his way back to his glory days as he connected with palmer’s three touchdowns and made 112 yards equaling a career high he set seven years ago. The bears had never given up 48 points in a home game and this is disappointing news for new coach John Fox, who up to now remains winless. However, the season is only two games old and there is a lot to learn and adjust in future. Let’s wait and see what this weekend has in store for both teams.

NFL 2015 Week 1: Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers on Sunday, September 13, 1:00 PM, Soldier Field

During Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears, Aaron Rodgers completed three touchdowns and beat Chicago 31-23. This isn’t to say that the Bears didn’t give the Packers a good fight. The Bears, equipped with new coach John Fox. However, they lost control near the end of the quarter and never gained momentum back.

The Packers have now beat the Bears 10 out of 11 in their last games against each other of the seasons. The 2014 NFL MVP Rodgers highlight of the game was his 5-yard pass to Randall Cobb after a long 16-play drive. This would make the score 24-16 in beginning of the fourth quarter.

The Bears highlight down fall during the game was when Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler overthrew to Eddie Royal in the end zone at fourth down, a play made after they decided not to go for a field goal.
